Good morning I'm off later today to see diabetic clinic before I start my gliclazide is there any advice I need as I'm really scared these tablets are going to make me poorly. I have no time to be poorly as I have 4 children to look after.

Hope you have got yourself a blood glucose meter to test yourself regularly to see what effect the tablets are having on you. Always carry hypo kit with you just in case. Even if it's just a pack of jelly babies. They might even make you feel better if your sugars are running high just now. Anyway best of luck!

Probably too late to advise pre visit. However, I am on Metformin and Gliclazide, and they work for me. Yes, I did get the occasional hypo-like event while I sorted out the correct dose for me, but I never felt at risk since these were quite benign events compared to someoine on insulin. Just needed a snack and then possibly a sandwich to follow and it would clear up quite quickly with no hangover. Quite unlike my T1D buddy who gets wiped by his hypo's.

Be aware that Glic can give low bgl, so read the DVLA advice if you are a driver. As said above, get a meter either from the GP / DN or buy one privately. In my opinion, it is the best investment to make - being able to test is essential in regaining control of the diabetes,

Good Luck. Glic is quite a benign med in my experience, and is quite predictable in the way it works. But long term it will be advisable to make it the first med to drop when you start controlling the glucose levels. Glic squeezes extra insulin from your pancreas, so does stress it a bit, and therefore not a good long term partner to rely on. I have been on it 3 years now and almost off it.

Thank you my doctor said I would get a meter on prescription as gliclazide causes hypos and I need to test frequently my appointment is at 4pm so will know more after that

Definitely starting gliclazide if I do t tolerate it they will start me on insulin as they are not liking how quickly my hba1c has gone in 3 months. They are keeping a close eye on me as they think it may be lada

Gliclazide isn't really recommended for those with LADA if they are looking to retain beta function - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0013775/

Have you actually been tested for type 1 with a GAD test?
