Oh NO! Not another metaformin question!!!

O.K. I started on Metaformin about two years ago.

Now. My food intake has dropped through the floor. The THOUGHT of food, ANY food, make me want to throw up. I can not eat more than a mouthfull or two of meat, Rice, potatoes, bread (from one to two loaves per day), down to not being able to stand the smell, pasta LITERALY makes me sick even to smell it being cooked, barley, lentils (Although barley and lentils give me gout any way, so I try to avoid them).

All that appears to be left is fish. Which I can eat one to two kilos of per day, cabbage, sprouts (small cabbages), cauliflower (Is that the right spelling??? ) cheese, Crisp bread (ryveta) and a small amount of mashed potatoe. Which I CAN still get past my nose. (And after THAT diet I can not get passed ANY ones nose  )

Now on the leaflet that comes with metaformin, it sais that appetite may be effected, but...

I told my doctor, and he just pointed out the appetite change on the leaflet.

Has any one else had this problem with metaformin?

I've been on Metformin nearly 6 years and never had any trouble with it at all. Not even tummy grumbles. Still if there is a bright side, is it at least keeping you slim? :)

Metformin can have the effect you have described. Here is a link to an informative leaflet about the drug. Perhaps you should print it off and show your GP.

At the very least you need to discuss this further with him/her.

Ken.

Cheers. I will translate it and show him.

See what happens.

Oh, and "keeping slim".

I do not think EVER in my life, THAT description couls apply to me.

I don't have problem with the smell of food, but do find that even if i make a salad then halfway through I feel as full as if i have eaten a 6 course meal which I find very funny as I used to be able to eat a 6 course meal and then ask what was for pudding :)

Thanks people.

Aye, Scamcogle. I noticed that on our yearly visit at new year to our Chinese mates. I just could not eat a quarter of what was put in front of me. Which by the Chinese is nearly an insult. LUCKILY one of their family also has diabetes, so they did not drive us from the house. :D

Nice to know you are all here for advice.
