Hi,
i have recentley been skipping my morning insulin as i find that with walking to work, my blood sugar returns to normal by itself. I walk for about 50mins at a quick pace every morning after breakfast and find that if i do even 3 units of insulin (reduced from 11) my blood sugar can go into the 3s by my break at 11am, especially when doing physical tasks at work. However i am concerned that my blood sugar is spiking without the insulin. Does anyone else do this?
Any advice appreciated :)

hi Jonesma

Yes I do before a run as like you have found I go low, somI have my Basal my breakfast ,skip bolus and go straight out for my run...otherwise I'm hypo-ing all over the place all morning ,even on a couple of units. My endo is fine with this.
I am insulin sensitive ,you may also be but to be honest testing is the key to find out how you react to certain situations and if you find you are staying steady on no insulin and exercise then great.
If you find you spike say , an hour later then I would do an adjustment dose to counteract this. What sort of figures are you spiking to? Or are you not testing and worried that this might happen/be happening?

I'd agree that skipping is fine, as long as you are not spiking, which can only be confirmed through testing. It sounds like you do this anyway, but I'd say make sure your breakfast is as close to you starting exercise as much as possible. At the end of the walk check you BG and if you are within your acceptable range then that is fine.

Alternatively, have some insulin, aiming for a slightly higher mid morning reading, then late morning have a small peice of fruit/snack to stop the hypo.
