Remember the butter getting rubbed on a bashed lump on the head .
I well remember it making my hair 'greasy' ugh ...
Never really knew 'if' it helped my lumps go though ?

Haven't all girls got lumps? That's how you can tell them from the boys .. the lumpy jumpers are the clue

My granny always insisted that folks put a new penny into a gift of knives or anything sharp. Apparently it's bad luck to be given something that can sever. The blade, it's thought, will sever the friendship. It's especially bad luck for a wedding gift, where the fear is that the sharp edge will sever the marriage vows.
Giving a new baby, on your first meeting, a 'silver' coin. The baby's wrist is rubbed with the coin, then put under the pillow for luck

If you don't go to sleep Father Christmas won't come.
And my old favourite.
The cheques in the post.
I remember as a child ,when the bride got into the car and as it drove of, it was a tradition for them to throw out a handful of coins . It was believed to bring financial luck.
