OMG inset 30...

I did it!!!! I fired one in just now and it didn't hurt at all. I was so petrified but I'm also so fed up of absorption issues and hoping these may sort it.

The cannula went in much further along than I thought. I also found it hard to tell is the feet were flat but it seemed to fire fine. My current set done earlier today (inset II on other side) is not working right so I'm waiting to see if this works. Fingers crossed!!

I made a hash of the sticky though. Not problem at the front but a bit curled at the back. Hoping practice will sort that out lol.

Any other tips from those who use these please? I looked at the viewing window but not sure what looks normal?

Also was annoyed to find had to change whole tubing as inset II connection is different!! Do those tubing packs come in the main boxes of inset 30s too?

You have 10 inset 30's and 10 tubes with each box.
To make sure you have the feet right use an old one and practice on a table top if you need to :) Just imagine the little feet at the bottom and attached is the legs. You don't walk on tip toe so you can obviously see how it's supposed to go.
As to the stick it's easier to just keep finger on the inspection hatch over the cannula and peel back the larger tape first. Sometimes a few crinkles appear but doesn't seem to make much difference, so don't worry about them.

Glad you were able to insert the Inset 30 ok. Its fairly painless.

i tend to remove the inspection window adhesive first after inserting the introducer and then my finger over the inspection window to keep cannula in place and then withdraw the introducer. I then lift the upper part of the adhesive away from the skin and try to csrefully remove the adhesive backing before sticking down to the skin. Sometimes, the adhesive sticks down a bit crinkled but practice makes perfect and as Carbsrok has said, it coesnt make any difference to how the insulin is delivered so dont worry.

Hope the angled set helps.

So far it's working well. The only issue I think I'll have is how much bigger it is. I have 4-5 sites on each side and 4-5 across my middle. That's worked out with inset IIs. I think I will lose a site in each area due to the width of this new one. Mind you are I get much further round I would have to use inset IIs as I wouldn't be able to fire a 30 that far round!

Other people seem to at least 20 different spots so I wonder if me only having 12-15 is the issue, even though I rotate religiously.

Where backside is concerned, I get OH to help me remove the intoducer and upper part adhesive lol

@iHs How do you even reach to correctly fire an inset 30 there?!? I'm not very flexible at all and I struggle to get right round my side to almost the back. Def couldn't reach my bum!!

Might have spoken too soon. Still getting highs after small amounts of carbs and it's hurting to bolus with the inset 30. Not sure if this means it's not in right?

Basically my basal is fine with every site but as soon as I bolus even for low carb meals I get massive high BG and am needing to bolus double my old amounts. The odd site works fine but most are doing this now. I'm guessing this is site fatigue and getting frightened my pumping days are coming to an end :( I have lost weight as I'm unable to eat much carbs due to sets not working. Admittedly I had a little to lose but not getting scared.

Have you thought about changing your carb ratio? I know it was discussed on a previous thread but did you bolus 30 mins before you ate?
As you basal is fine the sets are fine.
So you need to look at your carb ratio.

@CarbsRok do you think it's just that? I'm bolusing more than twice my original carb ratios for very small low carb meals. I do also now bolus 20-30 minutes before eating too

Take breakfast. My usual 20g crumpet takes 2.55u on a good site. Did 3u 20 minutes before eating and BG was 3.8. All stable until I ate and then BG shot up to 8 very fast. Couldn't get it down until I had bolused an extra 2u and that only brought it back down to 6.6. Yet if I get a good site I don't need any extra.

Also should I be worried the inset 30 is now stinging badly when I bolus?

How soon after you have eaten the crumpet do you go up to 8?
I'm also confused as to why you took 3 units when you say 2.55 is your bolus for a crumpet. Do you not deduct for a below target range?
Why also did you take another 2 units when you were only at 8?
You also say you injected 30 mins before you ate and were at 3.8 and stayed stable then shot up to 8.
From that I would consider looking very closely at your basal 3.8 and injecting and keeping to a steady 3.8 would mean to me that your bolus is feeding your basal requirements.
You also have to remember that your body needs do change thus we do not run like clock work so hiccups happen whether we like them or not :(

I went up to 8 just over an hour after eating it. I normally wake up with BG between 4 and 5 but happened to wake up with 3.8 this morning. I could see on the Libre my BG was holding stable and it didn't change in the half hour before I decided to bolus. As it's my first inset 30 I was a little skeptical about trusting the set so I bolused the extra units partly as a test based on my recent massive spikes. I only bolused 20 minutes before and I wouldn't deduct for a stable 3.8 as it's so close to my acceptable level of 4.

I need to do some more basal testing as I do want to check it's not bolus feeding basal. It's weird as losing weight I would have thought I'd start needing less basal too but maybe not?

My target is to try to be around 6mmoĺ before a main meal which probably means a rise upto 10mmol 1hr later, then falling a tiny bit back to 9mmolby the 2nd hr, then falling to 8mmol by the 3rd and then back to 5 or 6mmol by the 4th hr. If I used 4mmol as my target, i would expect a rise upto 8mmol in the 1st hr just like you eexperienced.

Everyone has their own reasons for the level of tightness they choose to have but its important to also hang on to a reasonable level of hypo awareness. Im not sure really if there is anything wrong with the sets, it might be that your bg levels have changed so try adjusting either yr basal or yr carb ratios.
