Hi, I've moved from Dash to Omnipod 5. I've always known that the sensor cannot exactly match the BG results but when on MDI and even Dash, I could work with this. However, on a closed loop, the sensor reliability really messes up my control, as I'm having to run it higher than I want so I don't get low glucose alarms. I turn the sensor alarms off but there is a default low glucose alarm which can't be overridden. I eat low carb and I'm used to normal BG levels, and was quite happy between 4-5 on MDI but the closed loop issue with the sensor accuracy not improving seems more hassle than it's worth.

I've got a hospital appointment tomorrow, seriously considering moving back to MDI. I have persevered but overnight the sensor was completely out of range and subsequently the omnipod didn't give me insulin. I've been in touch with Abbott a few times to request replacement sensors and spoke to Insulet about accuracy. I just don't think this is for me :(

Hi Peppergirl

I am interested to hear about your experiences with Omnipod 5. I am due to transfer to Omnipod 5 soon and this is something that I am concerned about.

I am using FSL 2+ in preparation for the change and find that it reads consistently low. I am told by the pump team locally that the pump will sort this out !!

I look forward to hearing how you get on

Did a bit of reading before my appointment yesterday and found others had similar experiences at first with the Omnipod and Libre2+. Yes the libre is annoying at times (but I've been using it for 9 years and wouldn't be without it) but I had to think, do I really want to go back to MDI? No, especially as I spoke to the consultant yesterday and went through my results and they're actually quite good and I think the key to all this to adjust the settings on the Omnipod. I've changed my target glucose to 4.8 which in Libre world is 5.8, and so the Omnipod 'learns' from this and adjusts basal. One thing that was frustrating for me was accepting my insulin/carb ratios, as I'm very clearly insulin resistant, so adjusting these on the Omnipod has helped (and also semaglutide tablets should help lower my insulin needs, as I was prescribed yesterday). HbA1c is 45 so something is going right (although I would like it a bit lower). The Omnipod and Libre have to be on the same side of the body to work due to bluetooth connectivity, so I put on the same arm which took a bit of getting used to as well. I've been using HCL for only one month, so I'm going to keep on with it, and adjust the settings as needed. I might just have had some bad luck with a couple of sensors - fingers crossed.

Morning Peppergirl

Thanks for the update. It sounds like your appointment yesterday was positive. I can see how the changes you have made should help. I will certainly keep them in mind when I eventually get changed to Omnipod 5. Like you I do not want to go back to MDI

Thanks again for the update. It really helps to hear from someone who has “real” experience
