Afternoon all,

Saw on twitter earlier someone post about using an Omnipod - never seen it before but it looks interesting!

I’ve had a pump over 10 years now and it would be good to test something wireless!

Is anyone using this - and did you get it through the NHS? Any pros/ cons to it?

I look forward to your replies!

Cheers
Rick

In theory, yes, Omnipod is available on the NHS.
In practice, pump availability is very much a local thing.
Some CCGs provide any pump (including Omnipod). Others may limit to only one or two.
Omnipod work out as one of the more expensive pumps so it is not as common as Medtronic, for example.
(My local CCG give the choice of Medtronic or MDI.)

So check with your local diabetes team what is available to you before you get your hopes up.

Luton CCG only fund children for omnipod. My daughter moved to it a month ago. I asked my DSN and consultant - adults dont get funding.
Not related.. but they also only fund Libre for pregnant women!
Not like any of these tools would make life easier for us... /paid my NI all my life!!! (rant)

Also back in the day and I don't know if this is still current but Abbott use to say it wasn't supported (by them) for pregnant women to use....................!

hi there ... i am using omnipod funded by the NHS but it is in wales ..... and each hospital makes its own decision partly based on training to be able to support the pump user ( from a DSN point of view )

I’m in Rhondda, hoping to get an Omnipod if I can’t sort out a few issues using MDI. My DSN said it’s an option :)
