Omnipod Dash on NHS

Hi everyone,

I'm really interested in changing from my MDI to an Omnipod dash system. Is there anyone out there that is NHS funded for the Dash or a previous Omnipod system? Im looking to find out if there was a criteria you had to meet to be applicable or if this was just a choice you wanted to make and your specialist agreed?

I really appreciate any feedback that anyone can give me on this.

If you are interested in a pump, the first thing to do is some research and formulate a justification why you think you would benefit from a pump and then ask your team.
Things to consider are need for small doses of bolus and need for varied basal throughout the day.
For example, children are more likely to get a pump because they need smaller doses and those who experience extreme Dawn Phenomenon are more likely to get one because they need a varied basal.

As for choice, I would discourage you from focusing on one pump until you have spoken to your team and found out what your CCG, offers. For example, my CCG offers Medtronic. That's it. No choice. Omnipod is too expensive. Anything else would require training the team to manage more than one pump.
Yes, there are exceptions but they are very rare and you need to get over the general pump criteria before worrying about which pump and even with exceptions, OmniPod is not an option.

I spoke with my Diabetic Nurses and they referred me to the pump doctor. Met up with him and he asked me why I wanted one and he said that I could have one so starting the Omnipod Dash in Oct 22
