Whilst watching a Ketofest video |(2 Keto Dudes 21st July 2019 on YouTube) this morning with Professor Stephen Phinney, I noticed what I call route 1 advice i.e. prescriptive direct examples of what could work if following a Ketogenic Diet. Something that has always niggled at the back of my mind is the saying "we are all different, what works for me is different from what works for you". I have come round to accepting this based on the 80 / 20 rule, but with an 80 / 20 degrees of uptake. By this I mean, for most Type 2's I believe around 80% could take on the above example entirely (not talking about like, just physical digestion without symptoms), I would then say maybe 20% would need to remove say maybe nuts, cheese or brassica vegetables, for either reaction issues, personal preference or body composition reasons.

So if you are following either animal based LCHF, KETO, Carnivore or similar hybrid. Would you have been comfortable with the above as a starting point from where you customised. My view is that the above is an excellent starting point to see what works. I would love to know your views.

I have more red meat, my coffee is black and I take in my fats in whole food mainly e.g. eggs, cheese etc, so I don't go out of my way to cut off a side of butter to eat, but will have butter etc as a cooking agent. I use Lo Salt and 100% Dark Chocolate Everyday.

Please be mindful not to criticise other eating methods, this is a genuine question that has been at the back of my mind for around 2 years based on the we are different suffixes people often caveat. It could be a great image for newbies who choose animal based Type 2 (and if you are minded Type 1, 1.5 etc) management or reversal (Type 2's),

Before dx I might have been a tad reticent about the fat percentage but fine with the protein and carb values.

Have to factor in the lifelong indoctrination of the demonising of fat esp sat fat that most of us were exposed to.

How s this different to the other low carb/keto infographics out there? The main thing I can see is this suggests it’s for maintenance in the title as opposed to loss. Presumably by then most will have found their own personal variations (assuming weight loss is where they started which for a large % it will have been).

But to answer your question yes I’d be happy to start at this point and in fact probably did based on an amalgamation of the info already out there

Your 80/20 rule is interesting but I think it may be more 65/35 or even less.
The reason I suggest this is that I have read how much harder women find managing weight and diabetes with lchf diet.
I think there was a thread on this last month.

I agree the pie chart is no different, but the practical food images with this in one screen shot would have helped me enormously; also it is the "weight" of Prof Phinney and his team; real science and dedication.

This is an excellent point for women. Often when a straight couple go on a low carb programme there are anecdotes of the man shedding weight more easily. The are also some questions over IF / multi-day fasting differences. I would be out of my depth on the this so would differ to those with success or otherwise on this site and the works of Gabrielle Lyons and some of others.

I've always eaten full fat food, and when I was first diagnosed I originally just cut right down on all the obviously high sugar foods, then starchy stuff too when I understood that these were also best avoided, and this was done without upping my fats. My protein intake has, as far as I'm aware, remained about the the same as it was prior to changing to LCHF. So I have no idea of the actual percentages.

However the way I eventually chose to split my target of maximum 50g carbs is roughly divided as the chart shows. (Worked out partially from what I was actually eating carb wise and what I considered a reasonable carby share out to keep my diet as varied as possible while keeping glucose levels down.)

My GP had suggested trying Atkins for weight loss, and when i was originally aiming for ketosis (20-25g carbs)
I was also avoiding fruit, nuts & seeds, and things like cheese and chocolate. This was pre discovery of our forum, and I was looking at Atkins induction phase food lists via Google.)

So it seems close enough to how I've gone about things.
