Type of diabetes
Carer
Hi guys, long story but my nan (83)has been diabetic type 2 for 33 years. This past month her sugars have been dropping to below 3.0 very rapid and dropping so much. Paramedics come and give her glucogel they go up and 1 hour later they're back at 2.1-3.3, doctor has now taken her off of her insulin for this weekend and just kept her on her metformin, anyhow her sugars have been great without the insulin! Average about 5.0-9.5. Does anyone have any advice for this? Food doesn't seem to bring the sugars up by the way only the glucogel has worked so far. Thankyou

It's impossible for us to give you a definitive answer as there are so many unknowns.
Is your Gran Eating and if so what is she eating and in what quantity.
Someone on insulin needs to carefully balance what they eat against with what is their Insulin dosage so as to balance things out and keep their blood/glucose within a safe level. Too much insulin and not enough food will bring on a Hypo (Too Low a Glucose Level - Below 4.0 mmol/L).
Metformin alone just (by itself) wouldn't make her go Hypo., so you need to carefully investigate things before drawing any conclusions.
Remember that older people will often say that their eating properly when in fact they aren't eating at all.
