Hi people, just thought I'd share my news, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 5 years ago and over that period of time my blood sugars got progressively worse, a year ago after an appointment at the diabetes clinic I decided I really needed to do something about it so I changed my diet took up walking (no cost) and in the year have lost 2 and a half stone (35lb), I really started to see the difference in just a week, after 6 months I stopped using byatta and reduced my metformin to 2000 a day after 9 months it was reduced to 1000 a day and after my recent appointment at the hospital the dr has told me if my results are the same as this time he will stop all metformin, I can't believe it I'm so happy, well another 18lb to lose and I will be my target weight it has been hard at times but I do have the occasional treat but I'm gonna stick at it... Just thought I'd share my news and hopefully will inspire others to do the same

Absoultly brilliant!!! And this is the attitude all T2s should be taking if they are really serious about helping themselves. This is also why I refuse to believe that in most cases T2 is not a progressive illness, but very much a reversable and controlable illness.

WELL DONE Millsey09 - that's fantastic :D

I myself may be diabetic. I've another appointment with my GP next week for another fasting blood test to see if I am. My 1st test in early Oct came back at 7.7.

I've already made changes to my diet - trying to do low carb (GI Diet), cut out foods high in fat, reduced salt (I also have high blood pressure) and eating LOTS more fruit and veg.

After almost 3wks I've lost 9lb! And it is hard but wow you've just given me the motivation to stick at it.

I really don't know what will happen with me - whether I will be put onto tablets if I am diabetic, but I hope to control it with diet.

Thanks for sharing :)

Everyone is different tigerlilly, but as long as I can keep my BG levels within the boundries I will refuse to go on medication. Even if you are outside the recomended levels, I would suggest at least give yourself 6 months to try and control it with diet and excercise. Again everyone is different, but I eat plenty of animal or saturated fat, eat very few carbs, and also watch how much fruit I eat, and which sort of fruit and the same with vegtables. Again each to their own but here is a couple of web sites that I go to. www.bloodsugar101.com or www.dietdoctor.com. Lots of info in them

Well done Millsey09 :!: :!:

A great inspirational story and just what I needed to spur me on.

Keep up the good work :)

That's excellent. Well done :)

Walking is a fantastic way of losing weight.
