Well yesterday did first day of low carb. What a difference it has made.

My reading before dinner last night was 6.1 and this morning was 7.1 - havent managed to get my morning readings below 8 before and mostly mid 8's and above so am chuffed to bits with this. Will definitely be carrying on low carbing.

Glad to hear you have had such good readings on your first day.

I had exactly the same and my readings have continued the downward journey proving that I made the right decision to low carb. Keep an eye on your readings and use them to tweak your carbohydrates. Your monitor really is a window into your body and puts you in control.

Excellent news. IMHO there is no other way but allow yourself a treat from time to time... maybe a smaller bit of something "naughty" eh? 8)

Good to read it is working. I am looking into it and going to try and do it. Did you find it hard to get your head around it. I am just now sure what is high carb and what is low as not all labels say (might need to go back to school for this !!).

We've been low-carbing now for about 14 weeks, and MH's levels are down to mid to high 4's now. His HbAc1 is 5.7. It was difficult but do-able at the beginning, and once you've made the lifestyle change, it's easy to keep it up. The hardest bit is getting your head around what you perceive to be unhealthy; reversing preconceived notions held for years.

If you are looking at labels aim for those that show 10grams or less carbohydrates per 100 grams. (ignore the amount of sugars - just go on the total carb figure) Carbohydrates are sneaky little blighters they hide away in the most innocent looking containers. :D

Aint that the truth!!

Congratulations, it's always brilliant to see numbers tumble like that.

Thanks everyone for all of your replies. I have got my head well and truly round carbs - dont loads of research.

Perhaps we should have a food diary section on the site where we could all post what we eat - it would give other people ideas of what to have and would also be a place where "low carb experts" can let us know if it is ok or whether we are doing it wrong.

Maybe you should initiate by revealing what you ate (or did not) in order to achieve those levels?

My problem is to sustain interest and a regimen while living with two non-diabetics. Some days I have very little enthusiasm for food. Partly because of the reduced range of options but mostly because of the "inconvenience" of preparation etc. And all the time we exist in a world seemingly intent on at best confounding us, at worst aggravating and accelerating our problems. 8)

Hi cowboyjim

I will start a new thread later. It is hard when everyone else is carbing to their hearts content but you have to be selfish. I shall probably just cook evening meals as normal and just omit the carby stuff from my plate - the other meals I will just be selfish and have what I want, low carb of course.

Right, like tonight they had fish and chips... well, it isn't as high carb as it sounds... white fish and no batter and just a few chips as a treat... and I stayed off the bread today (well nearly), omlette for brekkie, chicken soup with half a slice of toast for lunch... but I lay off the puds... it is the fruit I cannot figure, and I have a load of nuts to offset the dark choc indulgence through the day in between meals.

Low carb seems to work for pretty much everyone
Congratulations!

Well done to you. I know when I first discovered this forum I was really scared but now just love receiving notification of any new recipes. It makes such a difference.
I recently made the delicious choc cake posted by Defren. However, only having erythritol as I had no other sweetener. it's hard to find anything here in rance, I wondered if it is really necessary to add stevia to the mix. I might be able to find that! I did order Zsweet from America but it was quite expensive and the erythitol is cheaper from there.

Nice to see my recipe's are being tried. I'm glad you like the cake. I use splenda, but I believe the cake recipe was a C&P from somewhere else. :D
