I'm sorry to say I have to report the death of my trusted Animas pump. It popped it's clogs at 5.15 this evening :(
Even more upsetting is that there is now no cgm either.
Lucky for me though I managed to set up my old pump a Cozmo and it's happily delivering insulin without complaint even though it hasn't been used for almost 4 years.
Have been promised a new pump for Wednesday morning.

How long had you had it? Quick delivery of replacement pump fair play and nice touch on having a spare as back up

Good for you CarbsRok I've kept my old Dtron plus that had about 47 days left when I took the batteries out when I started my Insijght pump, plus I have my spare brand new pump that I "Aquired" a while back.

Had this pump for about 3 years.
Timing was exelent though as due a new pump in Sept so this one will be a spare as well :)

Guess this is why they only guarantee pumps 4 years. Mine died 4 months prior to getting a new one. So was replaced so I have a back up new old pump!!

Glad to hear you have got a replacement sorted out quickly CarbsRok.

I don't have a back up to my Medtronic although I do have a Roche Dtron pump from about 2002 in the cupboard. I imagine it twitching occasionally like the 'Wrong Trousers' did in Wallace and Gromit.

As the Combo takes luer tubes on the cartridges, why dont you see if an account can be set up with another company to fund 4mm sets? You can still use the remote. Its worth trying that before switching back to injections. What has yr hospital advised?

Just as well you kept your old pump @CarbsRok, great it still works fine after not being used for 4 years :)

Apparently there are problems using shorter lengths and thats why Accuchek and other main companies don't make them. I have had the global team respond to me from Accuchek with their reasons and accept them fully. Spiker has given me confidence to go back to MDI if I need to.

Easy Release steel needle set from Advanced Therapeutics. ....4.5mm luer

Due to Accuchecks confidentiality I can't copy their reasoning behind the shorter lengths not necessarily sticking correctly and guaranteed to go in the right layer of skin. My skin despite probs with the needles hitting my muscle is beautiful and as good as when I was in my teens... So I wouldn't risk lumps n bumps being caused.

Spiker has given me the confidence to go back to MDI.

I will not have a cgm either as the sensors in my arms from the Navigator cgm was awful.. Probably due to muscle. Just need to go over with my consultant the best insulin to revert too.

Have you tried an angled set @donnellysdogs ?I can't honestly see why you have such a problem with sets as very small babies use insulin pumps.

Put the battery in last night and pump is now working again. Don't trust it though so wont reconnect it have started the sensor again though, so happy with that. :)

Its because I am muscle. I have skin and muscle no fat according to my consultant.. Intried the angled and because of the plastic hitting muscle when moving then I got blockages then but couldn't feel that they had moved and "hit" a muscle. Babies do not have the muscle I have.

@CarbsRok, see when the 4 years is up do you always get to keep your old pump?

Never got round to asking this question at the pre-pump clinic and your thread has got me thinking about keeping a spare if possible.

@noblehead I got to keep mine which is great as I now have a spare :) Mind you I went onto the same pump so I suppose that is straightforward. If I'd changed to something quite different like a tubeless one or one without luer lock the supplies wouldn't work with the old one.

Thanks @MushyPeaBrain for the reply, given the option I hope to stay on my current pump when its up for renewal so that is good to know:)

@noblehead As I understand it yes you keep the pump as it's no good to anyone else. My first pump I owned anyway so wasn't giving that back to anyone :)

New pump is up and running this morning.
Green is even a nice colour for the pump. It does look better with the black skin on it though :)
