I know I'm posting a lot on here but so many problems at the mo!

Does anyone have a dramatic well.. I say from 8.4-3.2 in half a hour when coming up to their period?

Hi Lilllaura!

I have this! From about mid-cycle until within a few days of my period I struggle to keep BG down, and sometimes increase my insulin to account for it, but the few days before my period starts my BG crashes and I struglle to keep the BG above 4. It's a bit of a nightmare really as my periods are pretty unpredictable and my BG is pretty unpredictable. Who'd be a woman?

It's hormones, I'm afraid  ! Keep a record next to your bg test results that includes when you ovulate (pm me for info if you like) and the days up to your period, and you'll soon see how it affects you.

The other thing that messes your levels about is infection or illness. We just have to get used to it! :D

If you're still in the 'moving house, getting married, college course' mode - well, the stress won't be helping, either!

Hi Lilllaura87

I have exactly the same problem as you.....always have a couple of days HI then struggle to keep bs up.It is very frustrating!!!!!!

Hi josie!

It took me about 14 jelly babies and 2 choc biscuits to get bloods back up last night, I felt really sick when I went to bed expecting my bloods to be high and they were 7! I don't have a bloomin clue what's going on! Don't feel great today either :( x

Not sure if this is going to be a comfort to any of you but: this USED to happen to me, but kind of plateau'd out and now there's not much difference in my insulin requirements at different times of the month. I think it plateau'd after about 8 years of diabetes when I was in my late 20s. So it might get better (but of course it might not...)

Hi snodger,

Mine bs have been like this for 15 years all iget told is to change my insulin levels and it shouldnt be happening but it does.

Think now it may be cuz im due menopause so thats sumat to look forward to

Ladies Question

Hello,

I know I am pretty new to this, but as I had been having diabetic symptoms before my diagnosis, I wondered if my problem has got anything to do with it.

I have really irregular periods, they can be heavy, light, nothing for months then non stop for months and so on.

There is no easy way to pin point when I am most fertile or anything. (We are currently trying for a baby).

Just wondered if anyone knew if diabetes may be a small issue or had similar problems? We are currently seeing a gyneacologist and they have checked us both out and other than being a bit over weight, there is nothing wrong that they can see.

Thanks,

Becks

Re: Ladies Question

I know absolutely nothing on a clinical level about such things, but when I was diagnosed and started on insulin at age 17, my periods stopped for nine months. Before and always after that they had been very irregular. I don't know if that was diabetes connected or not, but it would be interesting to see if other people have similar things happen.

An aside: during that nine months I had to have a chest X-ray for something completely other and as I couldn't tell them when my last period had been, but it was long ago, I had to sign a form to say I was having the X-ray at my own risk and that it wasn't their fault if I turned out to be pregnant. I assured them that the only way I was pregnant was if it was by immaculate conception, but I don't think they believed me. I waited till my hubby came along some years later.

yeah, mine acted up after diagnosis too. heavy and delayed, then a while after that, 6-9 months of nothing. (also not pregnant, like Margi!).

Hi Ladies!

Me too! (Not the pregnancy bit fortunately!!) I was being testetd for very heavy non-stop periods (seriously, 3 months non stop bleeding) when they accidentally discovered I was diabetic. Spent the next 10 months misdiagnosed as Type 2 with my BG all over the place and periods either missing completely or ridiculously heavy and prolonged. They insisted I must have PCOS and were really surprised that I didn't. Turned out I'm not type 2 but LADA. 2 months after being on insulin, my periods settled down. a bit They're still very unpredictable - I miss some completely and then might have a 15-day period - but they always have the same effect on my BG - high for the week leading up to the period and low in the final few days before I start. The medics insist that there is no connection between my period problems and the diabetes, but they accept the link between my periods and my BG levels.

I had awful periods for about 12 years, heavy, long and extremely painful. Irregular, too. I was treated with drugs for endometriosis for years, which made me put on an awful lot of weight. It took a gay male nurse with an ultrasound scan to discover it was dysmenorrhea - ie, they didn't know what it was!

Then I had a Mirena coil fitted. This is laced with progesterone, and in my case stopped my periods altogether, which was bliss! I had it removed after about 8 years, by which time I was in my mid-fifties, and had gone through the menopause without knowing it.

This was before I became diabetic. I would recommend anyone who isn't intending to increase their family to ask about the Mirena coil - it took so much of the stress and pain out of my life!
