At the age of 68yrs, it's been discovered that I only have one kidney. ( Obviously I must have left it somewhere and forgotten ).
Have had bloods and urine tests, shows a marginal low kidney function but not an issue.
But, cholesterol, amongst all the detailed results, main number is 6.8. My doctor did some unknown multiplication and deduced that due to my age and weight ( 91kg ), I should be on statins. Informing me my equivalent cholesterol number is 20 ! Any advice ?

Hi @niknaknoo2 We have several threads on Cholesterol and statins that you may like to read (just use the search function).
However, I have never heard of an 'equivalent cholesterol number'. Each person is different, so it's something that I believe we should all read up on and form our own opinion about. I assume that by 'main number' you are meaning Total Cholesterol, which many of us feel is rather meaningless. If a lipid profile blood test is done, then that would show the amounts of HDL, LDL and Triglycerides.

My total cholesterol seems like it's higher than yours, but I have high HDL and low Triglycerides which make me comfortable with also having high LDL because it seems I'm close to meeting the Lean Mass Hyper-responder criteria. I am/was s slim Type 2 diabetic and use a low carb way of eating in order to maintain remission for over 4yrs and this makes me likely to have high LDL. If I was concerned about it, others have shown all they did is eat more carbohydrates in order to reduce it, but that would bring back my Diabetes - so I prefer not to do that.
