saw the quack again about my neuropathic legs & feet. put me on pregablin and tramadol (not change yet).
Anyway for the last week have been having trouble urinating to the point of great pain. to add insult to injury still constipated (sept) taking 3x15ml lactulose. both are now being blamed on neuropathy??? are the docs just using it as an excuse

Unfortunately the nerves that serve the bladder and bowel also serve the legs so this could be right enough, Ham.
Have you had your spine checked out for any sort of compression issues?

Ham,
You cannot go on like this. Is there another Dr. in the practice who has an interest in diabetes? Maybe with the urination/constipation problems being attributed to the neuropathy it is time to seek advice further afield. This may well be the case but telling you that does nothing for your wellbeing. You need some relief from the constant pain. Try phoning NHS Direct or take yourself off to A@E when it is really bad. No one should have to suffer like this.

Take care,

Catherine.

I've now seen 2 diabetic docs all of my practice docs one of which is a diabetic specialist(who after 2 weeks said he couldn't take my treatment any further). Been seen by nhs 24 8 times. I'm the first to defend the nhs and what they do but had enough saw my practice docs (3 of them) before collapsing with ketoasidosis haven't complained. sorry it's hogmany a few more hours and it's hover boards for all thank you for the responses

You need a referral to a proper specialist, an endocrinologist, not a GPWSI. The fact that he said he could not continue your treatment shows that he is out of his depth !
You have the right to ask for a referral.

Ham,
Sue's on the ball- get referred elsewhere if you can. Sounds bit like situation I was in 2 years ago; really angered me that I spent £200 quid to see a specialist during it.
You said you'd ditched lantus a while ago, what insulin are you on now?
I hope you, Sue and everyone else on this forum has a gr8 New Year, and we must all try to remain positive.

stopped it for a week with no change so went back on it and my body seems to be receiving it fine can't get seen til 6th but fingers crossed enjoy tonight and tomorrow all the best and many thanks

You should be seeing a consultant at your local hospital , not a GP. I was referred back in Feb without even being told so i'm not sure why you are still being seen by your clinic? I hate to sound ageist but at our age we need more care in a way as we could (hopefully) live for another 40 plus years.
Remember that the G in GP stands for GENERAL. One thing i've learnt in 2009 is that when problems do occur you need access to a specialist.
Good Luck!

have never been that lucky been up for the last 9 days with a grand total of 12 hours sleep had to much time to think and realised if it wasn't for my wife and kids I would've given up before now. I can't wait to feel human again but don't feel much in the way of hope good start to a neww year eh

I know how you feel in a way. I've been told I need kidney scan because I need diuretcs daily. Not looking forward to it but at least I'm a step closer to finding out what might be wrong .
You have a lot to keep you going ! Having a wife and kids and imagining how better you will hopefully be by next christmas will give you strength . I'm sure you have a right to see a specialist if you have a problem? Can PALS advise you?

Ham,
I think you need to insist on seeing a specialist. It is the only way that your pain/problems will be sorted. Good luck for the future.

Shygirl, I am shocked by your ageist statement. Life is precious regardless of age. (Take it from one who knows).  In an ideal world we would all get first rate care. Sadly that is not the norm as this forum bears out but please don't think that the younger that you are then the more is your entitlement. Everyone, regardless of age, wants to be healthy and have their diabetes related problems sorted by the best available tests and expertise. Please don't consign us to the scrap heap yet.

Catherine.

I wouldn't hold such beliefs and never have. I live with a pensioner , talk to someone of 64 almost weekly on another site and don't need to be scolded for views I don't hold. I've been in hospital and complained about how badly older pateints were treated compared to me (I was 26 at the time) , hardly the actions of someone who belives older people are worthless.
I was told that being younger meant blood vessels in my eyes were more likely to encounter problems , hence my "more care" remark.

I love the fact that an older member happily posted about not caring about long term effects of low carbing as they were older didn't attract any comments. I thought it was a very insensitive remark to make

shy this is my outlet pals seem to think of this as a disability which I can understand with the shape I'm in. As for the age thing I've found my age to be against me docs nurses saying "it's a hard age your right in the middle " then you get info on teenage diabetes or for pensioners there ae a few on here with similar stories. Just exhausted and had to let go without upsetting my family again
