I just bought myself a BS monitor today and it only came with 10 strips..............it also says I have to change each lance after use!!

Does anyone know if I can get the strips and/or the lances on prescription??

I'm now low carbing and my BS reading was 6.3. My diagnosis reading was 10.9, so I'm thinking something is working!!! I know its my first reading , but fingers crossed!

Hope everyone is well?

With a bit of luck you might get the test strips and lances on prescription.if you show the doctor just how keen you are to control your diabetes ,take a food diary with the readings from your meter on it ,then maybe he/she will prescribe the strips.

There's a myth on the newsgroup alt.support.diabetes that we only change our lancets once a year on St Swithin's day.

Personally I change my lancet when it starts to feel blunt, which is every few months.

WARNING always change it when testing someone else, and change it again for yourself afterwards. I still have most of the original supply that came with the meter and have never had any problems.

Strips are another matter though, I think testing is important enough that I buy my own (GP is not permitted to prescribe, you may be more lucky)
