oops let myself down big style!!

If it were me, it would be the cereal that caused the spike. I eat the 85% dark chocolate, the co-op's one has 18gm carb in a 100gm bar, and because of the high fat content even if I binge with a whole bar it doesn't effect my BG (though it's really bad for the weight of course). This chocolate is a lifesaver for me, for those times when us ladies have chocolate emergencies.....

We'll to be honest I prefer my cadburies any day - but needs must and the 85% serves it's purpose.

Went out for half a day with a friend today and had some interesting readings; here goes:

07:00 fasting 5.7 cheese omelette for breakfast at 09:30 (2 eggs)
12:30 shop-bought sandwich - wholemeal bread, cheese salad
14:00 Ice cream cone with small milk chocolate flake
16:15 (back home) bg test 3.3 :shock: ate a nectarine immediately
16:45 6.3. Better!
17:45 5.4 - what I would expect.

It was very hot today - up to 26C. I had a short walk this am to get the papers, and we spent 4 hours at a small shopping and garden centre, walking round slowly.

I really don't like heat - could that have been the reason for my 3.3 reading this afternoon?

I didn't feel hypo, and I'm okay now

I had a similar experience one day last week Viv, I had been shopping in Tescos and was queuing to buy some lotto tickets and my eyes fell on a Picnic bar, now I haven't eaten a choc bar for at least a year if not longer but I just thought oh why not, one chocy bar wont kill me, so I bought one and scoffed it on the way back to my car, it was lovely BTW , got home and about an hour later tested and recorded 5.5mmol/L and an hour later expecting an increased level got a 5.3. This happened about one and a half hours after a lunch of a Burgen sandwich and an apple!!!!

Not an experiment I shall be repeating too quickly but strange non the less dont you think?

Possibly my pancreas is feeling well-rested with all this low-carb, so over-reacted to icecream and chocolate - if my insulin resistance is improving maybe all the glucose got tucked away double-quick!

I think this would be a case for Patch's Cumulative Carbs, though - one ice cream (or Picnic bar) every once in a while won't kill us. Every day, or even every week, I'd soon have bgs going through the roof again.

I haven't eaten a Picnic bar for years - have they got smaller? they look it from the outside!

I have been in a relationship for 4 years. My boyfriend and I are extremely happy, and he tells me that he still thinks I'm beautiful. But, I have struggled with body image issues for a long time, and I'm smart enough to realize that I have "let myself go." I have gained some weight (not a terrible amount, but you know how we girls are about our weight), and I find myself not caring as much about doing my hair, putting extra effort into my make-up, etc. I have even noticed that stress has started to effect my skin (breakouts!) like never before.

I know he still thinks I'm pretty, but I would feel so much more confident around him and just in general if I thought it, too.

Any advice?

Karee, you are so not alone with this ........... I am one of many who has lost a great deal of weight and my body image problems have been huge and still don't see myself as "pretty" etc - although I get many compliments on how well I look now etc etc. It is ME struggling to see the new me - I am changing however ...... not that I shall ever be a glamour girl or anything but I am growing more confident with my new body - surgery or not (not in this case! )

So what changed? A little at a time - first I found myself out doing a little shopping and going through the Deparment store's make up/perfume section I was stopped by a make up lady, asking me if she could show me how to "jazz up" my make up etc. As I was in no hurry, I accepted and boy it was such fun - I really looked different. I got some sample products with me to try at home. That gave me a bit of a push to get my hear done (cut and shaped) - I colured it at home later on, when I was a little braver still. When I had a little extra money to spend on clothes, I went to a department store and booked time with a personal shopper/stylist - it is free and hugely fun ...... and it gave me ideas and a fresh look at myself too.

So is there something you would like to try to cheer yourself up - a Spa day, new make up, new hair?? It is worth trying the department stores on weekdays when they are not so busy - if you can/got the time.

Or why not make a date at home? Plan a nice dinner with candles and make yourself make an effort - sometimes, we need to push ourselves a little to get out of a rut.

I'm a fella but we too have confidence issues! I get great happiness from thinking of my friends I have great friends so I can't be all bad! My brother and his other half were down and his partner said "have you lost weight" so the effort really is rewarding when people notice. But think of your friends they like you for a reason, they're great people who don't need to be friends with me but choose to be so I must be a worthwhile loveable person.
