Ok so I took my lantus twice tonight
So that's two lots of 12 units in 2 hours I'll blame my clonasapam for the mistake
Either way I'm sure I can sleep thru it I'm pretty tired due to my pills
Any advice guys or should I just crash in hope alls good
Cheers
It wouldn't be a good idea just to go to sleep
@nessa1970. You should really be testing your BG every hour overnight to see how you go; this is to prevent any dangerous nocturnal hypos.
If it were me, I'd be going to bed with a fairly high BG to account for an imminent BG drop. I'd also be setting alarms to wake me up to test at regular and frequent intervals..
12u basal is the same as 12u bolus, the only difference is the rate at which the insulin is absorbed. You could always try eating/drinking carbs (relative to the extra basal insulin you've injected) at staggered intervals during the night to maintain a safe BG level.
On the assumption that your daily basal dose is 12u, you will now have an extra 12u of basal on-board. That will have the same impact as 12u bolus insulin, but over a 16-24 hour period. If in your position, and to err on the side of caution, I'd want to consume around 50-60g carbs, in staggered intervals, over the course of the night.
It's always better to be high than low.
