In a couple of weeks I will be able to choose the pump I want. I'm thinking of maybe going with the Animas Vibe but was wondering what people's opinions on it are. As this will be my first pump I want to make the best choice possible :)

I'll 'bump' your thread up the forum Nicola in the hope you get some replies, good luck.

I've used the vibe for 5 years. Had a couple of problems with screen. Also a lot of pipe blockages. I use Apidra now which is less prone to crystallising in the tube.
I am now using a Medtronic 640g. The vibe served me very well

Hi Nicola, congratulations on being able to have a pump.
The Vibe is a lovely little pump very easy to set up and use. I've been pumping for almost eight years now so the vibe was my second pump, , when pump renewal is due this September I shall be going for it again. Instruction manual is good and easy to follow and the staff on the helpline are very helpful as well.
No matter what pump you choose you will love it as you have no comparison to make. If you have the chance have a look at the different pumps on offer ask to hold them and play with them. Ask that you are shown how to fill the cartridges and operate the pump. Then make your choice. It's what you are comfortable with that counts. :)

Wow that does surprise me as Apidra has no phosphate buffer which makes it more prone to crystallising.

In 8 years of pumping I've never had a cracked screen and only one blockage alarm.

I thought that too, but DSN says otherwise?

Hi, I've had the vibe for a while now and had another Animas pump before that. I love it, it's very strong, (important for a clutz like me) totally waterproof, (which means I don't have to limit my swimming times) and I've never had any problems with it. The staff at the helpdesk are very helpful and if there is an issue they replace it very quickly.

I have just done a search http://www.findeen.co.uk/apidra_vs_novolog.html so we are right your DSN hasn't got it quite right.
I remember years ago when I had to fight for my funding that I was told point blank that animal insulin could not be used in a pump as had no phosphate buffer yet they would allow me to pump if I took part in their ongoing trial of apidra being used in a pump. After reading a post on another forum it appears that all patients at this clinic must use apidra or no pump. I told them where the bus stop was and had my funding directly from my PCT with care from my GP. Works fantastically in my case :)
Found this as well and it makes a very good read http://www.healthline.com/diabetesmine/thinking-twice-about-using-apidra-in-insulin-pumps#1

The Vibe is robust and reliable. It has some quirks but nothing serious. The main reason for NOT choosing a Vibe would be if you want a pump with a remote. If you are OK with the need to handle the pump for each bolus (food and correction boluses) and the occasional alarm, then it is a top contender. Plusses are that it's genuinely waterproof and integrates with an excellent CGM system, Dexcom G4, saving you the cost of the CGM receiver (but not the cost of the CGM supplies).

I have used the pump for 14 months and it was my first pump. I have complained a lot about it (on here) but most of the complaints are really minor. It's reliability and robustness are impressive.

Well I had a pump error last night on my new 640g, alarm went off and said "pump error 43 reboot pump"
Helpdesk say it's motor hall sensor shut down
Forced a rewind etc.Seems ok at the moment, we will see :(

I just got mine a couple days ago!

I went through the same thing as you and had to pick a pump, and out of all of them available i decided that the animas vibe + Dexcom G4 would be the best option for me for many reasons.

You can't go wrong these days if your buying just a pump. If you want a constant glucose monitoring system as well, you do have some homework to do haha

I'm picking my vibe up tomorrow and I'm so excited! Got it until Tuesday not connected and then go live on Tuesday!
The vibe is the pump my hospital recommend although there is a choice of three other pumps also. I will let you know what I think of it once connected!

The Vibe is awesome! My diabetic clinic has one of the largest group of pumpers and the vibe is the only pump they recommend for children. This is because it's so intuitive and easy to get to grips with but is tough and very, very reliable. Highly recommended from me!
