Hi, so quick recap, diagnosed type 2 two weeks ago after fasting was 8.9 and hb1ac 59. Went straight to low carbing and have my highest result be 7.2 after a meal. Today is my experiment day, bagel and banana for breakfast, 12 miles run, result was 6.2 (maybe as a result of the exercise). Off to in laws for lunch, I had meat, roasties, parsnips, carrots and yorkshires. For pudding I had apple and blackberry crumble with ice cream (all in the name of research you understand) and after two hours bloods were 5.6. Either I have this thing or not?!

What gives? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Wow. Why would you do that? I can understand people introducing carbs gradually after a period of good control, but you were only diagnosed 2 weeks ago.

^^^sorry, that sounds a bit harsh. What I am wondering is if you think you were misdiagnosed or something.

Its fine, @Avocado Sevenfold, no offence taken. Because I hadn't seen a high result, I will be honest, I was beginning to query a misdiagnosis - I even questioned whether my monitor was working correctly. I'm totally asymptomatic and all my own bloods were in normal range, even fasting was normal. I've had gestational diabetes twice and given my history with that I was anticipating some kind of obvious high thrown into the mix at some point. Perhaps this just proves that a low carb diet works. Whichever way I looked at it I needed to see a high so I had a toasted bagel (47g of carbs) and after two hours I was 10.2 so yes, I do have type 2 and yes I will stop tinkering with carbs to prove a point.

Denial can often be a part of the process of coming to terms with the diagnosis of a serious condition. We all go through it I know I did when I started seeing lowish readings I started to wonder my self then like today I test my blood and get a high reading out of the blue you go yes it's real, the thing is now you can get past that and take control because you know now what you need to do. Best of luck for the future.

I know, for me, the self-evidence of my own testing was crucial in accepting my own diabetes. My OH still reckons it was all a big faux pas at the lab, irrespective of how many times I have shown him my early readings.

Maybe he just wants me to eat cake, so he can claim on the insurance policies? ;)

Good luck with it all. You seem to be on the right tracks.
