Hi,

I bought a cheap Optium Xceed for check my BG, the strips that came with it were out of date so I've bought some of the new Freestyle ones, the new ones don't need calibration but it says it should come up with LOT no 45001 if not call customer care, well it comes up with the lot no of the last batch of strips and customer care are closed until monday, anyone know the score with these? (not urgent only T2 and checking out of interest, no hypo risk)

cheers

Mike

Just a quick question - are you trying to use the Freestyle strips in the Optium machine? The strips are usually for one make of machine only.

I was given an Optium machine by the practice nurse and a prescription for one touch strips and told that they would be ok. Have never tried it and bought a one touch machine.

The Abbotts Optium Xceed has been renamed the Freestyle Optium they are the right strips checked with the Abbotts website, but they have done away with the calibration, just says contact customer care.

Stupid question, but did you mean " Freestyle Optium" by "Freestyle" and not "Freestyle Classic" or "Freestyle Lite" [Even the pharmacist was initially confused when I had to buy strips - classic - for my Navigator meter]
? You need the first one.

Yes it's the Freestyle Optium same ones shown on the Abbotts website as being correct, the only issue is there must be some sort of procedure on the unit to bypass the LOT check or to set it manually to 45001 for the new strips as they have no calibration stick.

Just an update think I've resolved the problem, I looked at the Freestyle Australia site it appears that for the last 18 months before the rebranding they were issuing "calibration free" strips in all the boxes and these all had the same calibration stick and lot number of 45001, therefore when the new ones came out everybody already had their units calibrated to the new lot number, I bought my unit as old clearance stock and the sticks in the box expired in march 2011 before they commonised the lot number, guess I'll need to get a 45001 calibration stick from Abbotts.

Thanks for the feedback all

Mike
