Optium Xceed query?

I was given a replacement meter recently...the Optium Xceed...but I'm having constant problems with the lancets not seeming to fit in it properly. Both were on prescription, so I'm sure they are meant to go together but if I push the lancet all the way into the holder, it doesn't reach out of the "pen" far enough to prick my finger. I therefore have to pull the lancet out a bit more to get it to work properly and I'm finding it exceedingly tricky to get it just right. Often it then pricks my finger too fiercly. Obviously I've tried adjusting the number dial on the pen but even on maximum number, if the lancet is pushed right in, it won't come out far enough to prick my finger. IYSWIM. Is anyone having a similar problem, please?

Hi, I havent used this exact meter and lancet system, but I did used to use a medisense system...and was often either prescribed the wrong lancet to fit the system, or the pharmacy gave me the wrong lancet. Worth digging out the instruction to the finger pricking bit and checkingthat you hjave teh right ones.....don't rely on your Dr to know, theer are so many, it is easy to get confused!

You say you were given a "replacement" meter, so presumably you have your old lancet. Use that. So long as you get some blood it doesn't matter which lancet you use to get it. The Optium Xceed is a very good meter and the strips are excellent. The lancing device is the weak point. I use the Optium meter with an Accuchek lancing device.

Hi Patti,
The reason they changed my meter was because they stopped making the lancets to fit it, so I can't use that. Funnily enough my husband (he doesn't have diabetes, so don't know why he got it) received a voucher for a half-price meter at Llyoyd's pharmacy....for a Lifescan One-Touch Ultra-Easy. I decided to treat myself and buy one of those. Lancet seems better but it's odd that once all the bits and bobs are put into the carrying pouch, it will hardly close.:(The little drum container that holds the test strips makes it very bulky to close. I don't think people who make these things actually try everything out before marketing a product. Daft!

I have a one touch.I never use the pen as I have finger tips like rhino hide!I just jab using the lancet.I find my little fingers seem to be the best for a good drop of blood.

Knowledge is the key to control

You shouldn't need to get a whole new meter if your lancets are no longer available. I actually broke my lancing device and just got a new one. I quite like the lancer that goes with the optimum xceed, it is a lot better that the BD one I got recently.

Silly question but have you tried turning the wheel round? the higher the number the deeper the "jab" if that makes sense?
