Hi all,

I'm considering starting my days with a mug of warm water, lemon & honey & wondered if any of you fellow diabetics have tried this or something similar & if so what effects it had on those magical readings.

From what I have read so far, the organic raw unheated honey is the better choice as it effectively hasn't been "messed" with. I've also read that some studies have been done that way that honey has a positive effect for diabetics.

To be honest though, I fancy a nice fresh start to the day that won't result in the diabetic nurse wanting to beat me when I go for the casting blood results!!

Any thoughts, views, ideas are most welcome. Cheers.

Hello and welcome

I'm a type 2 on diet only, so I wouldn't touch honey. It may be natural sugar, but it is still sugar.

Would agree with BT. sugar is sugar no matter how it comes.
I find yogurt, nuts and a small amount of pomegranates start my day pretty well.
At the weekends, yogurt gets replaced with celery, olives and cheese... lovely too.

Honey is alongside lucozade as the biggest no, no out of all the things to eat.

I'm going to vote no too - for all the reasons the others have said - but you really need to test the honey for yourself.

All you need is a blood glucose meter. Then test before drinking your honey and lemon. Then test every 15 or 30 mins until your blood glucose returns to your starting point.

If your blood glucose rises by more than 2mmol/l then I personally wouldn't drink it.

If you put the raw, organic honey in hot water it won't be raw any more so you'll loose out on any possible benefits and only get the sugar. Bad idea.

Honey is contradictory. All sugar but it actually does have good properties too, that is local, raw, organic honey taken in small quantities.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read & reply. I think airing on the side of caution is the way ahead.......no honey for me.
