You could discuss your medication concerns with your Pharmacist who dispenses your prescriptions, sorry to read all about your problems Kencharlie.

Hello. I think you will be surprised just how many people are on a large quantity of other meds for medical conditions apart from their diabetes! Metformin is one of the good ones but I understand what you mean..I have always struggled with medications that I need to take for other healh conditions. Nigel has suggested speaking to your pharmacist which is a good idea for some reassurance.
For me personally, being as proactive as I can with my conditions make me feel a bit better. I do have depression as well but know that if I look after myself, especially with my diet and steps I can take to help myself, it helps to lift my mood. There are always times when it doesn't work but each day is a new one, all we can do is the best that we can. :)

What is sometimes felt to be an overactive bladder could be caused by heart meds used to treat angina and or high blood pressure such as amlodipine, nifedipine etc... add to that most diabetics sometimes pee more than nons, so causing longer journeys often have to be planned via loo stops
A chat to another doc in the practice should identify what meds affect what and then you will probably feel more at peace with yourself

Hi Kencharlie Yes it is a worry isn't it? I Take Ropinerole for Restleg leg Syndrome, Ramipril to control protein in Kidneys, Codipar for frozen shoulder and back pain on the same side, recently, Omeperzole for gut problems and tablets for nausea. + 2 types of Insulin This other medication has only happened in the last 18 months or so, and it does make me feel a bit low at times, wondering how all these different medications cope with each other :? and what's next  Also, possible Thyroid test result to get back and possible Coeliac disease with another Endoscopy. I suppose I would say that I'm lucky in some ways, and its not serious and I still carry on doing all the things I can do. Its all abit of a pain in the behind, but thats life I'm afraid and we just have to dust ourselves off and try to carry on onwards and upwards. With best wishes RRB

I too have many other conditions and medications. A lot of conditions are directly related to diabetes, like hypertension and high cholesterol. So is depression, it's very common with diabetes or when someone has 2 or more ongoing illnesses such as diabetes and anything else.

You mention you are unhappy that you are on antidepressants for sleep - please know that this is very common, doctors do it to try and help us manage as best we can with the other conditions we have.

Sleep is the key to everything - often if you can get adequate sleep everything else is easier to manage. Have you ever been told you snore loudly and/or stop breathing for short periods while asleep? Do you wake up feeling unrefreshed or with a headache, and feel sleepy during the day? Sleep apnoea is very common in people with diabetes or angina and IMO everyone should be screened for it. I can give you some more info if you are interested.

Even if you test negative for coeliac, you may still benefit from cutting out gluten/wheat from your diet. I did this and felt better within a week. It's worth a try.
