My OH has just been diagnosed with T2. He is 81. He went in for his 6 monthly check for his COPD, and the blood test came back. I gather that if your blood comes back as 48 or under you are not diabetic - his was 49! (Was this an HBa1c?) As I've been T2 for about 22 years now, hopefully I can guide him about some dos and don'ts. We have been to see the practice nurse who was lovely, totally approved of him cutting down on carbs (He isn't overweight, but I think less carbs would help him) and is lineing up eye tests and foot care and has offered him a Desmond course - not to mention an enormous file of information!. He's to see her again in three months. I was so pleased to find out that our practice appears to have an enlightened diabetic nurse!

Oh bad luck about his diagnosis, but great luck about your obviously enlightened diabetic nurse!
My GP practice are hopeless when it comes to diabetes management: still advocating the Healthy Plateful and my GP actually told me off at my last appt for cutting down on carbs - he said it was dangerous!!

As he is only just in the diabetic range and you have so many years experience I’m sure you will be able to manage the situation between you.
I’ll be interested to know what you both think of the Desmond course. They seem to vary from region to region.

Good luck with it all.

Sorry to hear! But it's great that you both have such good nurses and doctors, and that it's 49 not 59. Wishing you both all the best with this.

Yes, this is his HbA1c and happily for him his T2 has been caught very early, so there is every chance he can get his levels down. With your help, of course!
