Out and Pumping

Heh heh just did a full reservoir change in the middle of a crowded Costa at lunch time. Full of old people, business people, mums with kids. I got a few stares for the big needle on the end of the reservoir in "mini syringe" shooting up mode, and exposing the cannula patch on my tummy during infusion set disconnects for rewind/load/prime.

I feel like some kind of equality rights demonstrator :-D

Anyone else got any "out and pumping" stories?
 
No!
I had no qualms about injecting in public but mostly used my arms for rapid anyway.
I wouldn't want to expose the bits of me I stick a cannula needle into. I always do it standing up as well so it would be very obvious.
 
Yeah I was a lot more out and radical with pens than I have been with my pump (until now). Pens are a lot better designed for "discretion" in public use.

Ah, heck, I'm a terrorist! ;-)
 

I did mine At the bus stop the other day not a care in the world lol!
 
I had to put a new cannula into my stomach in a busy car park with people walking past, there is always someone who chooses to take a good look when you are trying to be discreet. I had yanked the old one out by getting the tubing twisted around the seat belt and when I released the belt the whole thing came out. I changed it standing up against the car door so I could see what I was doing, trying not to expose too much and yes, it was a "Pay and Display" car park
 

Ouch! I had a funny feeling go through me then when I read this! That sounds painful???
 
I've had a set in stomach (when tried them there) that was donpainful I couldn't move...just as I got out of car in Tesco carpark.

Did whole removal of clothes down to my vest tshirt in the front lobby of tesco (wear pump on arm) And put set in to my bum.

Done same in chinese restaurant when realised again that the set in my leg was not attached... And again was whilst trialling different areas. Will not go to filthy toilets to change, so stripped to vesty tshirt again and put new set in my bum whilst sat at table.

If I need to do changes.. Well its for the good of MY health so s*d everyone else. No way would I hide in disgusting toilets or delay swapping..

Done in Mcdonalds too when I had an occlusion..only went for a normal coffee when having windows replaced couple years ago in Kanuary and it was snowing and cold.. Freezing...went to warm up.. Was warmer actually to strip there than at home with window fitters and absolutely freezing my butt off!!

I will never hideaway.

There was an interesting article on Jeremy Vine this week of a 23 yr old girl with a colostomy bag in a bikini and the great effect and hits the photos have had at putting this in the public domain, and Crohns disease.
I applaud her for doing it.

Why should anyone be made to feel different because of a medical condition?

Gosh, when I had probs with a set in my bum (the sticky stuff and needle detached) I sent the photos of the set in my bum (bare) and how I cover it up with my knickers and clothes to accuchek!! These could all be on worldwide internet by now!! -lol)
 
She did aswell lol! She sent me the picture too bless! Not a care in the world haha!
 
I have done a full change in my office at work, so exposed the process to half a dozen or so folk, who are aware of my condition anyway........

I have never been caught out in public though.........I always get my low reservoir warning at night usually.......
 
Oh dear.. Nicola you just reminded me I did those photos I think in my customers garden when I realised the cause of higher levels!! No shame-lol)
 
There was recently the story of a beauty pageant contestant who wears her pump on her bikini on the bikini round.
 
Reservoir and set change, on a crowded Virgin train out of Euston. Sitting at one of the tables. A group of Spanish tourists were very interested!
