I've let my diabetes get out of control, I've had type 2 for 40years and for the last 4 months I've not bothered. Today I got a rude awakening as the Dr said my sugar levels are the highest he's seen and has basically given me a good telling off changed my meds, sending me for scans etc. I have a child with complex needs that overtake everything some days. I'm getting depressed with myself! I'm probably just ranting but how does everyone motivate themselves? X

Hi @Katannkir & welcome to the forum:)

We all get burnout from time to time, 4 months out of 4O years isn’t bad going. You’ve made a positive move in joining the forum.

I can empathise with you having caring duties, I have an adult son who is autistic and some days there’s not much that gets done other than his needs & it can take over every aspect of life not leaving much space for anything else. Having said that my son is my main motivation as I need to be around for as long as possible as healthy as possible because no one is going to care for him as much as I do & yes, that thought can also depress me so I don’t dwell on it often!

If you feel you can could you share what your latest Hba1c was and what meds your are on and the type of food you eat, this will help members to share their experiences & advice that is applicable to your situation. A lot of us T2 use a low carb diet to control our BG but it needs to be handled carefully if you are on meds such as insulin or Gliclizide

You’ve made a big step already and you’re not alone, have a read around the forum and please ask any questions you have
