Out of curiosity

Catladt - the only piece of dieary advice I received upon diagnosis - and his came in a phone call from the diabetes specialist doctor {yes they had one at that time , in that surgery} was NOT to drink orange juice .his was before we met.

It has always surprised me o see that some posers do appear o drink fruit juices - even orange .

xyzzy , you may indeed, re-educate {ie "tame ] you rpractice DSN. I know it is possible to do this. that means that she will probably not ake you on or atempt o hinder you, especially as your results are so good, but sn't t a shame that this is the best we can hope for?

She is unlikely to be able to advise you should you ever need it , and will just follow instructions from above.

I am not criticising her for it - it is good that she is a pleasant person and did recognise that she did not have the knowledge
to help you.
It seems that he Drs in your practice, like mine don' seem o view diabetes reatment as part of their remit any lnger.
Should the nurse not be able to answer your queries she will again refer you to higher authority ,
Many of these have a diploma in stonewalling.

I was fortunate enough {if you can call it that in the circumstances} to be referred to a Diabetologist a couple of years ago by my eye specialist. My HBA1Cs were rising and it was obvious to me that I was spiking unless I ate more than i wanted
in the evenings. Noone in the practice would help me.

The hospital did but I am convinced they too would have dismissed me and told me to go onto insulin had it not been for the intervention of their colleague. .That would have been a disaster because it was insulin PLUS all the other meds that was proposed by the practice dsn. I shudder when i think of it.

These people are indeed dangerous ,as catlady says, the whole system is dangerous.in fact.

In your case xyzzy , I should tell the nurse that on occasion you have forgotten to take the metformin and have noticed a huge difference in your readings and that you are very grateful to her for putting you on it. If she persists in trying to stop it
say that you are very worried about the likely effect on your next HBA1C. Good Luck.
