Overnight trouble

Hi all

Last night was not a fun experience. Could not get my sugars past 5 all night...even after a bottle and a half of lucozade (not taken at once!) Anyone go through this before?
Im pretty frightened by it. I haven't been eating that much lately could that do it? Im by no means starving but mayb having boiled eggs and toast as my teatime meal.
Any advice would be welcome x

Could you have accidentally injected your basal insulin twice?
 
Hi @Lynz84, if you have changed what you are eating without adjusting your basal or bolus insulin, what you describe can happen. Many of us find that when we reduce the amount of carbs we eat we need less background insulin.

Have you made any adjustments in light of eating less?

Hi tim. No i haven't adjusted my basal. Im suffering some anxiety and just not feeling hungry enough to eat the bigger meals! I suppose it makes perfect sense to reduce my basal! Thank you so much x

Well that's good your bg levels are back to normal, if last nights experience was just a one-off don't let it worry you, maybe just monitor things more closely tonight until your sure your bg levels are fine before bed, it's not nice @Lynz84 but you can be rest assured that we've all been there before.
 
From my personal experiences, I know where you have been and probably everyone has.
Once when I was sleepy, I forgot to inject so in my sleepy mode I injected my then usual 50 units of long acting, only to discover I injected 50 short acting. That was a long night of staying awake and making sure I didn't sleep and of course drinking a couple of cans of sprite and eating some chocolate - but all worked out in the end.

I will keep going on about this because it is the simplest and easiest way and that is to use the Freestyle Libre system. Ok, I am not suggesting spending all your money on it, but now they have an APP for your phone (as long as you have NFC on your phone) and 1 sensor will cost you about £43. It lasts 2 weeks, but the data you get from it, is invaluable.
Especially when you have night time problems - I would really recommend it.
