I have a friend who is prediabetic and we were discussing diabetes and I didn’t realise but she thinks all overweight people have diabetes! Where do people come up with these ideas. She seemed very shocked when I said anyone can be diabetic.

The media basically churns this narrative out at every opportunity

Unfortunately whenever you see items on the news about T2 diabetes being on the increase they usually show an overweight person eating chips and pies etc so there is an assumption made, albeit incorrect, that if you are overweight you will get/have got diabetes but if you’re slim you won’t even though we know that’s not correct.
