I’ve just been diagnosed with type2. I’m slim, aged 30, don’t have high blood pressure or cholesterol. Apart from losing some weight and feeling thirsty i feel absolutely fine. I was screened at a local pharmacy and my BG was 22.9 so i was referred to my doctor. I’m now measuring my BG twice a day and taking 2 drugs. I’m feeling really overwhelmed...I don’t feel as ill as i seem to be. I need advice!

Hugs @KatieLou . It is all very bewildering at first, but once you get your head round it matters will be much clearer and life will settle down.
I am not a Doctor but your statement that you are slim and have lost weight rings alarm bells in my head. Please go back to your surgery and ask them "How can you be sure (or what tests have you run) that I am Type 2 and not Type 1?
I am not saying they have mis-diagnosed you, but it might be better to be safe than sorry and find out for certain.

Please do not be alarmed by what I have said

Thank you! Reading the posts in the forum is really helping me.
The doc tested my urine for ketones and didn’t find anything so they ruled out type1. Is there another test they can do?

Hi KatieLou! This is my first response on the forum but I have been following it daily since my diagnosis in August last year. I can't even tell you how many times I could have written your post! I'm glad you were able to articulate your concerns and questions. This forum is amazing. First, let me second the suggestion to demand antibody testing. I was misdiagnosed with type 2 and taking a medication that is contraindicated for LADA for months before finally seeking a second opinion. I was confused as to why my lifestyle changes and medication compliance weren't making the drastic difference I was hearing about in others. It was horrible. Now, with the proper diagnosis and basal insulin, I have excellent control, a supportive team at my doctor's office and hope for a long, complication free life. Be your own best advocate, read, ask questions and find a doctor/team who believes in you.

I believe it is called a GAD test. It determines whether you are producing any insulin. It costs your Doc a bit of money. The ketones test is cheap!

Thank you! I will ask the specialist about this. I hadn’t heard of LADA before.
