Ozempic shortage

Can anyone answer why, apparently?, no one is doing anything (Government, NHS or GP’s) about the critical shortage of Ozempic injections for type2 Diabete??!!
I have been taking it for over 2yrs now & my sugars are completely under control, along with a weight loss of nearly 6 stone (I am now 14st 10lbs), which has not only improved my physical health, but also my mental state of mind.
Yet, I’m reading everywhere that film stars/actors/celebrities are paying extortionate amounts of money for it as they’ve realised the effect it has on weight loss/appetite suppression & getting hold of it quite easily, apparently?
My, along with 100’s of 1,000’s of other people’s health relays/depends on this injection but for the 2nd time in 2023 I am being told that pharmacies can’t obtain Ozempic from the manufacturer or any other sources. Surely the medical profession are aware of this, yet seemingly are not putting pressure in the relevant places..
However, the government have just announced they are starting a £40million campaign to start treating obesity with this very same injection - surely this is wrong & a campaign needs to be started to safeguard those already on Ozempic who’s health has not only improved with it, but they are dependent on it?
I would appreciate others thoughts/comments on this, as I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking this way.

I was waiting for a month to get my prescription filled (if finally came in 2 days ago after I’d been put back onto Victoza which hasn’t helped me before). It’s a pain as celebs were telling people Ozempic was fantastic for weight loss meaning it was hard for diabetics to get on their scripts, I think we’re going to see issues getting it for months yet to be honest, but even more if the government go ahead with suggesting it (as I’m sure wegovy isn’t available yet)

I’ve been prescribed Victoza in the interim - I’ve never been on it before & only been taking it for past 2 days (after 3 weeks without Ozempic). My concerns are - it’s a daily injection & I'm worried about the injection sites becoming damaged & more obviously, whether it will be as effective - only time will tell I gues!
Thanks for your response & good luck in obtaining your Ozempic.

That ozempic was issued to me, made me sick every time i used it , made me lose my appetite, i lost weight. Did nothing for my diabetes which it was prescribed for. 4 weeks ago they stopped it, and issued insulin, I feel better, not sick , i eat more and have more energy, my blood sugar readings have also dropped. I read up on the Ozempic and found it was for people overweight which i am not. Due to my weight loss I finished up in derby hospital getting a camera shoved up my behind to make sure there were no problems there which there wasnt. So although i have been a hidden type 1 , insulin is a better remedy for me and not Ozempic

Reading your post @derek.marjoram, makes one realise how incredibly important getting the correct diagnosis is, for getting the right meds and the right treatment generally. I'm pleased they figured it out correctly in the end! (But not, alas, before your poor behind was compromised!)

Went on to say that the limited supply due to limited production is being brought by other countries/people who are paying a higher price than the NHS are prepared to!
I was talking insulin up until January, switched to Ozempic when moved home, lived with the side effects till now and when just getting used to it, with great control etc now I can’t have it anymore. Back to insulin for a year or more I guess! Frustrating in the extreme!!

12 months, oh I really hope not. I managed to get some when was put onto Victoza but that’s going to be up soon - put another order in and just get told - it’s not in stock… nothing else.
My dr hasn’t put the Victoza on my prescription either so I can’t order that now too. It’s all making me really anxious

I have been put on Victoza (daily injection) & have just discussed with my doctors that I have been suffering with many side effects - the runs (which is doubly accentuating my Diverticulitis) & constant migraine like pain in my forehea. My doctors reaction to this was "Stop taking it, we won’t give you an alternative, & we’ll arrange an HBA1C blood test in 8weeks”!!?! I am now worrying about suffering Hypers/Hypos in the coming weeks. Not what I expected.

Thankfully me doctor just started me on the newest injection called Mounjaro and I have been taking in for about a month and a half. I haven't had my Hba1c levels check yet since being on it but will have them checked at my 3 month follow up in August. I'm feeling better so hopefully my blood sugar has dropped. It has helped suppress my appetite as well and I have already lost 12 pounds while being on it.

Doc gave it to me for type 2, i was 13 stone in weight, went down to 11 stone, not because i was fat but because i couldnt eat anything because it made me sick, every week for nearly two years i was sick, but my sugar levels did not change so they took it off me which was great, now back to 13 stone, eat like a horse and never been sick since, so hope you enjoy that drug when you can get it again, it never worked for me
