I have just recently had a pacemaker fitted but was very astonished at the way it was actually inserted.
Having watched the op on Youtube where the surgeon carefully eased the flesh into a pocket for the pacemaker to be lodged into I was quite taken aback when in my op it was rammed in with quite some force and was extremely painful even though I had an injection to numb the area at the beginning.

I asked some other patients about their experiences and was told the same thing had happened to them.
I do wonder whether this is necessary or why this happens as it is akin to medieval torture in my opinion!

I too had a pacemaker fitted last March, it went okay, felt a bit of tugging and pushing when the pacemaker was inserted, but not too bad. Although it was quite sore, painful and awkward for quite a while afterwards. Still get the odd uncomfortable feeling in my shoulder even now. Perhaps you weren't sedated/given enough local anaesthetic. Having this done is still quite a shock to the system.take care.

Thanks for your input Topo.I certainly think that the surgeon was being very sparing with the anesthesia and also the pre-med as I had to climb onto the op table where he swabbed my skin, placed all the cloths around me..as they do.. and only then was I given the pre-med which by that time I was literally shaking like a leaf with nervousness.
