Pain in arm and legs

Hi have a server pain in my left arm and pins and needles in my feet and I find it hard to walk at times .i have had a scan on my legs and everything looks fine.i take gabapectin for the pain but this doesn't help my blood sugars have been out of control for more than a year I take insulin and metformin could my nerves be damaged

Hi Gary are you type 2 btw? What you are discribing could be diabetes related, but really you should see your DSN or GP for a proper diagnosis. It does sound unpleasant, I hope can get it sorted out very soon. Good luck

Hi Gary,

If you have been on metformin for a few years you could have a vitamin B12 deficiency. Metformin is known to disrupt the body's ability to use the B12 in your diet and up to 30% of people on metformin will have low B12 after four years on metformin.

It's often mistaken for the beginnings of diabetic neuropathy but it's easily found with a blood test and easily treated. It's worth asking your GP to do the blood test.
 
As you have already had this looked into by health care professionsals, I'm wondering if they have actually checked to see if you are taking daily statins ..are you?
