Hello everyone I’m new to this site and really need help with regards to my mother who has had type 2 Diabetes for many years. She is currently in a great deal of pain with what she has been told is arthritis of the spine. Her GP has been giving her co-codamol 30/500 for any/all pain she has suffered over the years but they are not touching the pain she is in now.
But her unsympathetic GP says there is no other pain killer available for her and just sent her home. She sits crying all night in agony and I feel so helpless. Surely there are other options to manage such severe pain. I would be very grateful for any advice or suggestions from anyone on here.

Has she tried a Tens machine. The only thing that helped me was a tens machine, but would have to keep it set on continuous. I used to keep it on all night, even though they said don't. Mind you, used to eat batteries. I can't take opioids or anything similar. Only good thing for me is that spine now fused so pain their minimal. Knee quite another problem. I also have a memory foam mattress.

Tell her to ask for a referral to the pain clinic at the hospital, they have consultants that specialise in pain management. How was she diagnosed with the arthritis? If it was by a consultant then maybe an appointment with them, if it was the GP then she could also ask for a referral to a rheumatologist. I hope she gets sorted, pain can make you thoroughly miserable may even raise her BS
