Hi there.I really wish my fet would just disappear! My Neuropathy is so painful now ,24/7 but especially at night!!I've been taking Pregabalin and Cymbalta now for 15 months but this last few weeks I've resorted to taking Neurophen too, through the night more than in the daytime, just to let me get a bit of sleep.I even put them in ice a couple of nights but that just send both feet into cramp! My feet just turn outwards without warning and literally "lock"at the ankles which then go into cramp right up the sides of my legs and my shins stick out like razors, thats when the pain just gets terrible and I'm rooted to the spot, sometimes for up to almost an hour!!.I'm on Low Carb and it seems to be suiting me,I'm keeping my BS to between 7.5 and 9.3I'm not due to see the practice Nurse till October but I have spoken to my GP about my feet,in fact she tried to examine them but they just cramped up ,she said she didn't know what it was,but that the Pregabalin should help ?
The other thing that's happening,I don't know if it's connected! But my Urine is awful,I think I've mentioned this once before!!but it's really foul smelling all the time and dark :!: I've mentioned this too to the Nurse she just said to drink more but I've always been a water drinker, about 2 litres a day and it's making no difference.Sorry AGAIN to go on but My feet especially are driving me mad,in fact the other night I said to Richard,I really don't mind if I have to loose them.I've also had to give up driving because of them,a month ago, after driving for 46 years :( Thanks, any suggestions at all I would be really really grateful for.Take care,Virginia :)

Hi,
I have suffered with neuropathy over a good few years. Fortunately, it seems to be not too bad at the moment. It can last for years or come and go, but it does usually calm down over time. I have also felt as if losing my feet would be worth it. However, since having had just a couple of toes off, I am not so sure that is the answer!

Here are some of the things that I have been prescribed for the pain and cramps over the time:
Quinine tablets - I still take one every night and it stops the cramp. If I miss it I suffer all night.
Capsaicin cream - a chilli based cream that creates a heat feeling which in turn fools the nerves into accepting the pain of neuropathy.
Antidepressant Tablets - I can't remember the exact drug, but it was a low dose antidepressant which had the effect of dulling the acute pains. The side effects of these were not so pleasant for me.

I have spoken to some sufferers who have used "TENS" machines with great success too.

Hope that is of use.
Regards

I would ask your GP ,if you can see a pain consultant

Have loads of lovely drugs at hand to dull the pain 8)
I suffer from Neuropathic pain without the help of the pain clinic
Think I would have jumped off the Tyne bridge by now

Some of the Durgs do space you out for a bit ,
I have found if you can stick with it , the spaced out effect will go in time
Consultant always tells me to stick with it as it will get easer , his normally right

Amitriptyline will space you out at first and make you sleepy and dream in 3D normally start you on very low dose then bing it up slowly (same with most of these type of drugs)

Amitriptyline I take 100mg now helps me with the hundreds of Glass splinters pain

Gabapentin Also can space you out ,First time i had this ,Next morning i had problems getting out of the bed  also takes some time to settle down
I find this one helps me with the Boiling hot fat pouring over you pain.

Gabapentin I take the Max dose of this one Now 2400mg per day

Clonazepam Boy ow Boy this one is the Daddy knocked me sideways for a week
as it has the effect to increase the effect of the two above ,and the morphine i take
also helps to protect nerve membranes , Helps to Dumb down nerve spasms

Morphine Good all-rounder , But not much good with Neuropathic pain
I use Morphine for spinal pain ,also handy for good nights sleep

Trying a new one out now OXYCODONE HCL MR an Opiate like drug clear head with this so far

Just a Few meds I take as you can See there are drugs out there to help you hold the pain back
Then there are the spinal blocks

So get yourself off to the Pain Consultant ASAP

Virginia, I have suffered neuropathy pains for years, at one time I almost lost the will to live it was that painful.
The pain clinic will be able to help, also if you can lower your bg levels, you are running them too high, this will help I am sure.
Since keeping my numbers in the 5s, post prandial never higher than 6.5 my neuropathy symptoms have all but disappeared. I still have some numbness, but its mostly gone.

All the best

Thanks for your really helpful replies.I've had this for 7 yrs now (at first was told it was Gout!)I was on Gabapentin but this was changed to Pregabalin which suits me better.I have Morphine for my Arachnoiditis when really bad.My GP referred me for Pain Cliic but was sent to see Physiotherapist who said I was very complicated!!This is what I'm up against,The Neurologist signed me off because he said it was all caused by the Diabetes but then the Diabetes Consultant said it was caused by the Arachnoiditis!!So in the end I don't go to any Clinics and am not under any consultant, only my GP who has admitted she's as confused as I am!!!I'm hanging on (just!)till we move in this next 6 months, then I'm hoping to find a GP who will be willing to try SOMETHING! Thanks again for your suggestions I'll take it all on board and just hope I can keep going.

If your moving you may find a better pain clinic with your new GP fingers crossed for you

I must have one of the best clinics in the country from what your saying , have the pain clinics direct number , can phone pop and see them quickly
when I need something like a spinal injection ASAP

Pain consultant told me he doesn't care much whats it is thats giving me the pain
as long as he can hold it back , Give me some relief

Once you arrive at the pain clinic ,you know full well ,Thats the last stop salon :?
there is no fix just pain control.

If you ever need to natter about the pain or how its a right pain in the bum
PM me anytime

I have neuropathic pain in my feet as well and without medication, I would gladly have them take my feet off me as they were so painfull I didn't want to put them on the floor from a sitting position!!! It is horrid when there is no painkiller that will touch the pain and you can not sleep.... I take Duloxatine ( my wonder drug), 1 capsule before bed. I call this medication a wonder drug as it worked from the very first capsule I took! The doc said that it would take up to a month to start working Ask your doctor and keep asking till you get some help. :)
