Hi. Has anyone done this recently. I am an 11 stone type 2 on 4 metformin, 4 gliclazide and a sitagliptin per day so just looking to reduce meds not weight.

I am doing LCHF and not paleo. So I have cheese and cream, very little fruit apart from tomatoes and such. As in paleo I stay off grains and this has made a world of difference to my bg as I couldn't cut out the sugar, soda, biscuits or other such stuff I've never eaten anyway.

It is important to take the HF part seriously, not only cut out the carbs. You need energy and fat is perfect. Not margarine though! Butter, lard, olive oil, coconut oil are fine as are nuts, cream, cheese.

LCHF - I like my dairy too much - cheese and cream. Again, not too much fruit except berries. Definite 'yes' to nuts, oils, butter etc.

I consider myself Primal/LCHF more than Paleo because I do eat some dairy. It also seems like a lot of anti lowcarb is creeping into "Paleo 2.0" with the crossfit, extreme athlete group seeming to dominate lately. Fine for them as they don't have screwed metabolisms, but seems to me they're drowning out (if not outright driving away) the people who come to Paleo for health reasons. I still think the Paleo/Whole30 autoimmune protocol should be the starting point for anyone trying to heal themselves of just about anything. Until you try an elimination diet, how do you know how/which foods are screwing you up?

I also prefer Mark Sisson's rational/reasonable approach and he tends to be my 'go-to' resource for information.

Thanks for the replies.I was looking at keeping some dairy (butter, cheese and cream) to keep up the hf so as you say more lchf than paleo.
I will keep you posted on my progress

This seems to be working.

Last couple of months have seen a dawn phenomenon of around 10.
Been doing lchf properly for just one week and the results are 9,8,6,9(ice cream) 5,5.
Stable all day approx 5-7.
Also reduced meds!

Will this continue?

Did you reduce your meds on your own or in consultation with your doctor or diabetic nurse?

What meds are you on now?

I ask because I'm doing LCHF and I'd like to think that eventually I could reduce meds, although I have a huge amount of weight to lose too (gliclazide is not helping with that!).

Hi
I am due a checkup in july and will discuss then.
Down to 1 gliclazide and 1 metformin at the mo. Morning reading is biggest improvement. I am not doing it to lose weight tho.
Sorry for late reply - only occasional interweb!

I would keep taking the 3 or 4 met, for insulin resistance, the slowing of the gut etc. and cut your glic as you can, as your bg drops
the two are very different drugs
