In the USA at least, it is widely accepted that Dr Loren Cordain, author of 'The Paleo Diet', is a founder of the Paleo movement. There are many many tweaked Paleo/Paleolithic/Stone Age/Caveman diets out there and this cookbook purports to be one. I bought it from The Works, other bookstores are available.
The book (no author is given, weirdly), does instruct you not to eat dairy, grains, pulses, legumes and refined carbs which is pretty strict paleo.
Suggested vegetables: artichoke, avocado, aubergine, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, courgettes, green beans, radishes, spinach, sweet potatoes and tomatoes.. er, a tomato is a fruit, duh. What ? No mention of kale at all ??
Suggested fruit: apples, bananas, berries, grapes, kiwi, mango, oranges, pineapple, pears, plums.
Suggested nuts and seeds: almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and walnuts.
Suggested meats: beef, chicken, duck, game such as venison, goat, lamb, pork, turkey.
Suggested fish and seafood: bass, cod, haddock, halibut, lobster, mackerel, salmon, sardines, shrimps & prawns and trout.
There isn't a suggested fats column at all and it isn't until the following page that fats get the suggestion " unsaturated fats from sources such as avocado, nuts and extra virgin olive oil ".
After tips on being motivated, eating out, the question of cost, clearing out your pantry etc we finally reach the recipes.
I wouldn't consider all of them LCHF, but there are certainly some interesting things for example steamed beef meatballs, orange walnut bread (using courgettes and walnut flour), chestnut flour pancakes, apple herring salad, chicken Colombo, hazelnut coated chicken, roast pheasant legs, tuna ratatouille, chocolate olive mousse, coconut milk panna cotta, apple crisps etc.
So the intro gets a fail but I'll be trying some of the recipes for sure !
