I have recently been diagnosed type 2 & am probably being very naive but I'm determined that it's not going to rule my life. I fully understand that I'll have to make changes but I am concerned about some of the information I'm reading in the book/magazine my Doctor gave me entitled "Your guide to type 2 Diabetes". A couple of weeks before I was diagnosed I went back to Paleolithic eating which really suits me. I get carbs from salad, veg, some fruit I.e. Berries but I don't eat potatoes, bread, pasta, rice. I really don't want to change my diet and I'm dreading my first meeting with the Diabetes Nurse as I think we may clash. According to the book we plan everything together & I so hope that's true.

Personally I have eaten a paleo diet as T1 and T 2 and it is the only thing that suits me. I also do vlc version. Like you no grains, starch sugar but I also rarely eat fruit or legumes. Mostly above ground veggies avocado olive oil mayo nuts seeds fish and other proteins. Low carb moderate protein and moderate fat. If it suits you I don't see how you can go wrong but your meter will tell you.
I was very fortunate to have a nurse that believes in paleo as well as low carb

Are you low carb

That's lovely to hear. I haven't had my first appointment with the Nurse yet so I don't know if I'll have to have a meter or not. At the moment all I'm having is Metformin & even that was an issue because the Dr said I was to take 1 a day but the Nurse told me to take 2 when she phoned me to make my appointment. I do have an occasional apple or pair but love berries. I tend to stay away from citrus. I start my day with a black coffee which has coconut oil & cinnamon in. I then have an apple around 10.00hrs, chicken salad around 13.00hrs & then main meal which is vegetables & meat all on a small plate. That's it for me then.

Hi @Spirit01
That sounds absolutely fine and is low carb.

I really wouldn't worry about your dsn. It will either be what you know is best or something on the lines of eat carbs with everything. Even though you know that it's carbs that raise your blood glucose levels.

Be resolute.
