palpitations

I see from your profile that you take Thyroxine ? If this is so were you aware that it has a number of side effects.........dependent on the dose.

Side effects include diarrhoea, vomiting, anginal pain, arrhythmias, palpitation, tachycardia, tremor, restlessness, excitability, insomnia; headache, flushing, sweating, fever, heat intolerance, weight-loss, muscle cramp, and muscular weakness; transient hair loss in children; hypersensitivity reactions including rash, pruritus and oedema also reported.

It might be worth discussing this with your GP as there are a number of things which can cause palpitations, including :

Strong emotions
Vigorous physical activity
Medicines, such as diet pills and decongestants
Caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and illegal drugs
Certain medical conditions, such as thyroid disease or anemia

Has anyone had experience of palpitations following injections after meals ?

Was this a one-off or is it every-time you inject dingbat? Had it been a one-off then it may well have been a hypo or something in your food/drink, if it's after every injection then you really do need to see your gp as Ken suggests.

Hi Dingbat, r u on Lantus?
I started getting palpitations after being on it for a year. The reason I ask is that I am one of the many unfortunate people who had many problems with Lantus- exhaustion, pain, etc; and unfortunately the palipitations seem to be a long-lasting side-effect for me,even though I came off it 2 1/2 yrs ago. I was taken to hospital on 3 occasions with chest pain and unexplained rapid heart-rate on Lantus, and I've since found I'm not alone in my experience. I've no other underlying health issues and never experienced anything like it before Lantus.
I very much doubt Sanofi would still be peddling it,if they were forced to list every god-awful side-effect, but there are plenty, trust me.

Thanks for the responses. I've been on thyroxine for a while with no problems. consultant told me to increase my lantus by one unit every 2-3 days until my bg was between 4and 6. iwas on 5 units and I did as I was told until I was taking 18 units. bg still around 10 first thing. it made no obvious difference to my bg levels except i was getting palpitations quite badly 8-10 times a day. I've since taken it on myself to reduce the units to 10 and palpitations have reduced. I still get them a bit particularly after injecting 5 units of nova rapid after meals.
