Type 2 Pancreas damage

I have had type 2 diabetes for about 12 years now. My GP was surprised that I developed full-blown straight away - no warning signs. I have recently discovered that I have that I have substantial necrosis of the pancreas and it has been attributed to a nasty bout of pancreatitis which happened about 6 months before my diabetes was diagnosed.

I read all sorts of things about trying to lose weight to improve the diabetes but I have other health problems and take drugs which have caused weight gain and with this new revelation on the state of my pancreas I do not see any way forward - just down and then out! I would really appreciate any advice out there.

I haven't had pancreatitis, but I have beta cell damage and I'm now insulin deficient so can sort of relate to what you're saying. I've been living with diabetes close to 18 years now. I have other illnesses I'm living with as well which makes management of diabetes a challenge. I've been on basal and bolus MDI since beginning of 2010. For me my diet is also challenging as I've had to eliminate a lot of foods that would ordinarily be good for diabetes. So now my reality is most of my safe foods are in fact carbs. I don't have a lot of non carb options that don't affect me and cause pain. Then also I can't eat too much carbs because that just raises my BGL It's quite frustrating when you're trying to please everything you have wrong with you. I hope you can find things that work for you. Keep soldiering on at least and know you're not alone. I wish you the best. :)
