Hi, my name is mags and new to diabetes and the forum. I have attended the Desmond clinic for information and my local GP surgery where the nurse holds a clinic. I have just attended my first Diabetic clinic at the hospital. Here is my 'story ' so far.

I have had pancreatic enzyme deficiency (CP) for 5 yrs. I was told it would mean that eventually I would become diabetic. - 3 months ago I was diagnosed with Diabetes and 'labeled' Type 2.
However due to my pancreatic issues my Gastro consultant organised tests and scans of my pancreas to see if there had been further deteriation to my panc and to see if I was type 1 or 2. I'm afraid to say that there was more damage and my diabetic clinic doc has diagnosed Pancreatic Diabetes. I am self managing at the moment and dont need any meds for it. Is there anyone here on the forum that has Pancreatic Diabetes and is it similar to type 1 or 2.
Can anyone shed any useful information for me.

Thanks in advance
Mags

Hi Mags.
Welcome to the Foruum.

As you no doubt appreciate this is not a particularly common Type of Diabetes. Fortunately we had a Member who asked about this back in May this year (2010). The name you have used is slightly different so I hope this is the right information for you.

According to the Member It is known as Type 3c Diabetes aka Pancreatitis Diabetes. This is a little known form of brittle Diabetes characterised by rapid and large Hi/Lo & Lo/Hi swings in BGLs.

We did some digging around and managed to answer some of his questions and also educate ourselves in the process.......hopefully by reading the link here it may be of some help to you.

In the meantime I will see if I can find his contact details as he was on another forum (unrelated) and you might be able to get more information from him as he did a great deal of research into the subject as he too was affected by this type of Diabetes.

Hope this helps you in your search for information.

Found the links to the website and Forum I needed.

Website: http://www.pancreatitis.org.uk/

Forum: http://www.pancreatitis-forum.org.uk/

It is called the Pancreatitis Support Network (PSN) a registered charity.

Dave, aka leather_ferret is or was a Moderator there although that may not be the case any more. I would suggest you register there and ask around the Forum. If he is still there he is extremely helpful and will pass on his knowledge to you. He does sometimes pop in here from time to time but I haven't seen him around for a while.

If he isn't around I am sure you will get a warm welcome there and help and support. If we can assist in any way please feel free to ask questions here too.

Thank you Cugila,
I am already a member of that website as I have Pancreatic enzyme deficiency due to chronic pancreatitis. I have been a member there for about 4-5 yrs. However its only recently that I have been diagnosed with the Diabetes. - so I thought I would register here for more info on the Diabetes side of things.
I know of leather ferret (Dave) and have corresponded with him before. I havent posted my 'new diagnosis' on the Pancreatic website yet, but I will do that in the next few days. I am sure that he will take the opportunity to respond to my post if he has the same issues.
I will take a look at the link you posted and thanks once again for your help.
No doubt as time goes on and I get any other useful information I will keep in contact with you and post on the forum if it helps others.

Cheers

Hi Mags.
That's good to hear you already know about the PSN, I'm also glad that Dave is OK. When you don't see people around for a while you do worry about them and wonder if they are still OK. :D

As regards the Diabetes side of things we can always provide information in general but after reading your post I was not sure if you might need some different treatment and advice.

You can check out the Greetings and Introductions section here where you will find Basic Advice for Newly Diagnosed Diabetic's. Much of it can help but because of the complications you have I would ask that you discuss it with your HCP's before doing anything too drastic.

Feel free to ask questions here and we will do our best to help out.

Regards
Ken.

Hi Ken,
I understand what you mean about not hearing from someone in a while - you can worry about them as you can think the worst has happened hoping that in fact it has not .. (you know what I mean.)

Well, I am at the moment waiting on results from a further blood test requested by the Diabetic doc, so it depends on the out come of that as to whether I will be called back sooner that the 6 monthly check. Either way I can get a list of questions ready to get answered by the consultant in the meantime.
I cant seem to find any substantial info on the ' Pancreatic Diabetes ' heading so I will look at your link and google the name that you listed for more info.
Information is knowledge as they say.
I certainly will have a look around here for info and I wont hold back on the questions.

My hubby's computor is away being mended and he has been on mine more than me - its been difficult to 'get a look-in at the moment, but hopefully his will be back soon and I can have my wee puter back and able to browse away till my heart's content.

Cheers

Listen Mags, it's way past my bedtime......TROLL hunting I'm afraid !

Look forward to your posts and hope we see more of you on here. If there is anything you are not clear about you can also pm me and I will do my best to help. Dave and I got on well. Nice guy.

So for now it's a good night from me. Speak again. Like the avatar BTW....... :D

Regards
Ken
