hya all, just wondered if anyone could answer a couple of questions please, i have pancreatic diabetes and wondered if this would be the same for my children in the sense that if a parent has diabetes then there is a risk that they could inherit the condition, also i have been told that the left side of my heart is not working properly and now have to go for more tests, does anyone know anything about this or have it thankyou if you read/answer this post

I believe it depends on what originally caused your pancreatic breakdown. Because pancreatic diabetes (type 3c) is a result of the damage that has been done to or death of the organ. So for example, my pancreatic disease is not inherited, my type 3c is also not inherited. Not sure if that made sense, sorry!!! Sue xxx

i dont know what caused it tbh, i never thought to ask, i know why i had to have the operations but not what had caused it, i now have other complications from the diabetes as mine runs in the late 20's or hi on the monitor, the dn has said that the new insulin im on will do the trick but it will take months to do this as they cant do it fast or my body will go into shock, i dont really understand this but i can only do what the consulotant and dn say. thankyou all for your reply's

@muggle666 apparently type 3c is a complicated form of diabetes which can be difficult to control. I was told (warned!), mine could take months to get under control and boy were they right!! There is no pattern to my blood sugars and my bloods bear no relation to what I eat, exercise, sleep anything. It's horrible and very frustrating!! Do you still see a pancreatic consultant? They should be the ones who can give you the causes and the genetic/inherited info. Otherwise you could ask your GP but in my case despite being a good GP, they openly admit they have never come across anyone like me!!! Ouch!!! Sue xxx

thankyou Sue, you sound like me lol, no i dont see the pancreatic consultant anymor they discharged me 6yrs ago, they said you may have mini flare ups but its all looking good. well they were wrong, its all gone pear shaped, the diabetic consultant was disgusted with how i have been treat, and says i shouldnt have been discharged and have prob been diabetic quite a few years, but hey ho, it was more for the kids reall so as i know what to tell them, they are up to date with everything i do keep them in the loop lol, or they tell me off, just dont understand whether its heriditary or not. xx

I think I've been really lucky with the pancreatic care but no so lucky with the diabetic care. In all fairness because the diabetes is so brittle and 3c so uncommon, they tend to be really cautious about everything! Keep in touch, my new 3c friend!! :)

thankyou so much, i hope it all goes well for you from now on in, i saw my gp on monday and now need more heart tests, well at least i know i have one lol same goes for you keep in touch x
