Hi all - quick introduction as i'm panicking slightly

My son has gone on the veo pump today and has had his tea (120 gramms of food) and was 6.2 - then the bolus wizard suggested 7.2 and we agreed and set it, then he had an ice cream and we gave him an additional 1 unit and then dropped to 3.2 - 2 hours later had lucozade and now gone upto 6.8 -

basal is .225 on 5.4 total units

now concerned he's going to drop to low if he has a sandwhich and another bolus he'll drop too low,

any advice help would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

First thing - don't panic! My T1 son is not on a pump (yet!) so I hope my advice will be ok.

I would say if you're worried he's going to drop too low, don't give him the full bolus amount. If, when you test him later, he's too high you can always correct it then.

Make sure you are counting your carbohydrates carefully.

Hi, my daughter went on the pump on Monday and she is on .15 basal, total 3.6. I don't know how old your son is but my daughter is 7. The first night she was running really high, but last night we checked her at 10.00 then 2.00 and the when she got up this morning at 7.00 and she was 6.2, 6.1 and 6.8 respectively. So far her numbers have been really good but it's still early days.
It could be that his basal is a little high at certain times which is making him run low. I would have a word with your DSN and see what she thinks.
It will take time to level out but has got to be worth the effort in the long run.
Don't try to solve everything at once but get the basal rate right first and it should be fairly easy then to work out his bolus ratios.
Good luck

Harry
