I wrote on here a couple of months ago concerning my raised B'S on my HBA1 test in Dec following my quitting cigarettes in early Oct 2015. Diagnosed 2007 my BS then around 11 - 12, I had managed to keep my levels to between 6 - 7.5 so when I was told they were at 12 in Dec was a blow. Research informed me that quitting smoking changes the metabolism and definitely can raise BS levels for up to 3 years! I have been ill with a really virulent virus for almost a month - followed by trip to Canada to visit to family - so agreed with nurse I would get blood test and see her again after my return. I saw the DB nurse today and she is new to the practice, as is my GP. However, she gave me tester and has ordered strips - I've always been put off of self testing by both Nurse and GP - however the bad news is my sugars are now at 16.2! I have not been mega splurging - never eaten a lot. I am 9 stone 9 and 5.5 aged 65 and keep fairly busy. I have was a little lax on my diet by eating occasional treats but nothing outrageous - so now I am panicking here is my BS level raging up and up from fasting level 7 last May. I am looking at starting 5:2 diet and looking for others experiences on the how's and why's please.
