Paralympic Games

Just read that telegraph piece and your right that is a truly remarkable and inspiring story. Matt Stutzman's ability is just amazing and shows what can be achieved if one has the determination. Some people just dont know the meaning of the word disability do they.

I think they all deserve gold just for getting so far. They really are amazing people and I take may hat off to them.

I belong to another forum where the Paralympics has been discussed, I know it has on Facebook too.

Within the Disabled and Caring communities there are mixed feelings with a suprising number feeling resentful towards those who compete being referred to as "heroes", they point out that there are those that live with painful and disabling conditions everyday, what about them.
They also make the point that disabled are being targetted by "haters" who think they are swimming in a sea of benefits and free cars etc etc.

Frankly I couldn't give a monkeys, anyone who has fought against the odds to get to the top of their chosen field deserves admiration in my book. There have always been ignorant people who hate and abuse and always will be, the Paralympics will make no difference to a closed mind.
There is also a furore (more understandable) that the company ATOS is sponsoring these games, ATOS are responsible for a whole lot of grief and trauma and I have had personal experience of it.
They say they are fair and compassionate, they are anything but and putting people too ill or disabled to work in an appalling position by clearing them as fit to work when they are not. They are hateful, no other word for it.

But I can't see any point in boycotting the games because of ATOS..what would it achieve? Those who know them well know what a vile company they are and those that don't, well, they probably won't ever need to know.

This is a little interesting snippet http://www.channel4.com/news/did-gb-par ... s-branding

I would rather concentrate on the achievements than the politics..just for a wee while.

I've really been enjoying the sport; though not the presentation and the adverts.

I found out about this lady, this mornig: former Para olympian goldmedallist Pam Fernandes .I think she's now a member of the US team support squad.
She has T1, became legally blind because of diabetic complications and was on dialysis before a kidney transplant. She went on to be a cyclist getting a gold at the Sydney games.

We've also got a T1 gold medallist in the form of the Tandem Pilot Barney Storey.
Interesting that this article doesn't mention it.

I am disappointed it is shown on Channel 4 And not BBC.

Great achievements from sportsmen and sportswomen.

What is your views on Jody Cundy. The gate didn't release, whose fault was that !
I think a restart would have been correct.

Roy. :)

Absolutely agree with what you say ladybird

The Wheelchair Basketball is something else and I could watch it all day, agree with Roy about being disappointed it's on C4 rather than the BBC.

Hi All.
Have been glued to the Paralympic Games feeling so humbled and proud watching them achieve their dreams.
Also loved hearing and reading the stories both on tv and in the newspapers behind the athletes too...
So inspiring and heart warming - totally amazed and humbled.
They are truly strong in spirit and mind to overcome all disability(s) excelling with the gifts given to compensate and
overcome the hardships they may face daily and in their chosen sport(s)
It is amazing the efforts we see being displayed and the positive endurance of the human spirit reflective in these
Paralympic Games.
Am finding am enjoying these games "more" than the olympics...
