ive been looking in to different options to control my diabetes T1 and have agreed to meet with a nurse to discuss getting a patch pump fitted for a trial period before i go forward with the options of islet cell or full organ transplant. I was just wondering if anyone has had a patch pump or if they could tell me how a normal insulin pump has affected their lives? i dont want to sound superficial but im only 22 and the thought of something being stuck to the outside of my body kind of puts me off and i was also wondering about fitted clothes? if anyone could offer any kind of info that would be great!!!

Hi lucy,

i have had a pump for 1 year now and i seem to have more control over my diabetes. The functions on a pump are great. You can control what basal you use when you exercise. The pump i have comes with a wizard on the blood monitor where you can tell it how many carbs you are having and it will work out the insulin dose and deliver it so you dont need to get your pump out.

I usually keep mine in the pockets of trousers and the pumps come with a choice of tubing lengths so you can have whats comfortable for you. You can also wear your pump in your bra when you are wearing tight fitting clothes (this is where the wizard comes in handy) and the cannulas are hardly noticeable.

Hope this helps.

Josie
