Has anybody else found that they get rises in blood levels 6-12 hours after they have ate peanuts? Salted peanuts?

Reason I ask- on a few odd occasions when I need to add some calories I have had a 90g pack of KP original salted peanuts (supposedly 5.6g carb for 100g). Some days I may have them are pre gym or sometimes on a Saturday night.

Tonight I have looked back at days of having a level that literally has jumped and realised its days when I have peanuts. Ie today had them pre gym.. Didn't bolus as it was pre workout. As usual the peanuts at 14.20..gym at 14.50 and levels were 6.3. After gym 7.0. Flat lined until 20.05. Then at 23.15 suddenly 11.8!! Last ate at 16.45.. Definitely not bolus and other nights are normal unless I have peanuts....sometimes its 10 hours later, sometimes 12 hours.

This happened on pump when I had perfection 99% of the time..

Just can't see why peanuts would so raise my levels.

Tonight for my tea was usual mackeral salad with usual fruit n chia n flax seed...normally totally flat line with these foods with walnuts.

Maybe you're sensitive to mycotoxins? Apparently peanuts are one of the most highly contaminated foods. If you're sensitive, your BG might rise as a result in the same way some people respond to gluten.

Funny you should say that...I've just this week noticed the exact same thing...and have struck them off my 'favourite snacks' list...they have been replaced by almonds...not as nice but not a bad substitute

Try smoked almonds , they are delicious and have the same carb content as 'normal' almonds.

Peanuts cause my BG,s to go NUTS. Love them ,but needed to stop eating them. Now eat roast almonds and pecans without any problems.

High calorific food, even if its low carb will cause blood sugar rise hours later. I wrote somewhere here about method used in my homeland for pump users. For something like 100g nuts they advise extended bolus of 8h

@donnellysdogs - 90g peanuts also contain 25g of protein, so while they are low in carbs, you are likely to see a reaction to the protein.

Def the protein that's causing the rise. I have the same problem when eating peanuts unless I remember to set a temp basal.

Consultant advised me to eat peanut bars at night before bed because my blood sugars take rapid nose dives ( I'm honeymooning so not a general recommendation!) and was hypoing in the early hours of the morning. She said they were low GI, slow release carbs. All I can say is it worked and gets me through the night! Can't eat them during the day though cos they raise my blood sugars too much!! Sue xxx

100g of peanuts contains 16g carbs, that's equal to about 5 points on your glucose level. Makes perfect sense!
The ones listed in the original post have 8.8g per 100g according to the bag....

Yes. I can't eat peanuts.

If you enjoy salt and vinegar flavor, Blue Diamond now makes S 'n V Almonds. Soooo good.

Actually I was really astonished because the bag definitely said 5.6g per 100g...

Much, much lower than any other peanuts I have had and I didn't believe the carb content and was going to write to KP and enquire whether there carb content details were correct...
