Hi, I`ve just read that peas have 14g carbs and 6g sugar per 100g so I was wondering if they are ok to eat, any thoughts?

I am not myself a low carber, so take insulin to match what I eat.
To put peas into comparison to e.g. ordinary boiled white potato then:

White Potato boiled:
Glycemic Index: 82.
Glycemic load in 100g serving: 14 grams.

Green peas:
Glycemic Index: 51.
Glycemic load in 100g serving: 6 grams.

So yes, I eat peas with delight as great food.

Thanks for your reply, I`ll continue to enjoy them!

Eat to your meter!
I was disappointed to have to stop eating peas a while back but I'll have another go soon.

Many low carbers avoid foods with >10g carbs per 100 OR have a reduced portion.
Also, it would very much depend on the rest of the meal.

Yes, eat to your meter. It depends on the portion size. You can probably have a couple of spoons. Out with the scales and the meter!

Whenever possible, I prefer to use carb counts for actual food that I buy, rather than generic figures. They might be averages and the real figure could be higher or lower. For example, the Waitrose Duchy organic frozen peas that I buy are 8.6g carbs per 100g - considerably lower than 14g. An 80g serving of these counts as 1 of the 5 a day and has 6.9g carbs.

I eat peas sometimes, but never as sole vegetable.
